I WON IN ALTHEA’S SELFIE CONTEST!

A couple of months ago, Althea held the Petal Velvet Powder Selfie Contest where they’d be choosing 10 lucky winners of $50 worth of Althea shopping credits. Thanks to my girl Christine (@theglamourhour) for making me join. Had she not, I wouldn’t have had this rare opportunity!

The $50 shopping credits appeared on my Althea account on October 31st, as promised by one of their “pixies”. Prior to this, I had already picked all the items I wanted to get and added them all to cart. (The winners were announced beginning of October.) By the time I was ready to check out, some of the items had already been out of stock. So I had to go through their vast ocean of amazing Korean skin care and makeup products again.

Thanks again to my beshy Christine, I learned that I could use Althea’s Halloween promo code at that time to get 13% discount. So, yep! I got to pick more items just to use up all P2,600 ($50) credits.

Had it not been for the shopping credits and the promo code, I would’ve paid P3,194! I got a discount of P415.22 so I only had to pay P178.78.

The best part? I only had to wait 10 days! They’ve been consistent, by the way. This was the third time I purchased from them, and I have never been disappointed. They shipped out my parcel on the 1st of November, and it was delivered to my doorstep today, the 11th. No problems with ‘croicky’ Customs.

Let me now show you the products that I picked. Continue reading “I WON IN ALTHEA’S SELFIE CONTEST!”

What happens when you lose Z’s and what you should do RIXREVIEWS: Laneige Water Sleeping Mask | K-Beauty

These past few weeks (or maybe months), I’ve been lacking sleep. It’s either I sleep at 3 or 4 in the morning, or I don’t sleep AT ALL. And this is NOT good for my body, as well as for my skin.

I’ve been having breakouts lately – on the forehead, cheeks, jawline, and all the other possible places for pimples to appear. And I know exactly why they keep coming back.

Now, how can my skin be at full rest, if I myself do not give it the so-called “Beauty Sleep”? So, what really happens to our skin when we lack sleep?

1. Cortisol level is UP to the heavens!

Cortisol, in layman’s terms, is a stress hormone. The more sufficient sleep we have, the lower the level of cortisol. It is naturally reduced as we sleep. Now, low cortisol level allows our skin to regenerate. So, if we don’t sleep, the cortisol level goes up causing breakouts and prevents our skin to heal properly. Our skin will age faster if we don’t have enough Z’s than when we do have enough sleep.

2. Our skin gets dehydrated!

As you’ve read in #1, when we lack sleep, the stress hormone called cortisol increases. This destroys collagen – something that keeps our skin smooth and elastic. The skin becomes dehydrated causing fine lines and dark circles.

Ever noticed how much and how easily we perspire when we sleep? That’s because when we sleep, our body rebalances hydration and recovers moisture. So, if we don’t sleep, it’s like depriving our body from doing what it’s supposed to do.

3. Our skin becomes dull.

Our blood cannot flow efficiently all over the body when we do not have enough sleep. This leads to lack of oxygen in the blood. Our skin will look less radiant, more blotchy or ashy.

4. It’s going to worsen our skin’s existing problems.

If you, like me, already have pimples lodging on your face, more will appear if you sleep less. I haven’t been getting enough sleep, so newborn baby pimples appear somewhere on my face. I may have been able to treat some, but there were new ones that came out.

5. Our skin gets prone to skin diseases!

When we do not have enough sleep, our immune system weakens. We do not only get sick, but also our body develops immune-related skin diseases such as eczema.

There may be more reasons why we need proper and sufficient sleep. These five things alone should already have convinced you to stop staying up late at night. (Too addicted to K-drama? hmmh…. I don’t blame you! I’m as guilty as you are! 😀 )

If you’ve got your hands full and your work is up to your eyeballs, and you think it can’t be helped, then there’s one product I am super loving at the moment I recommend…

1

This is Laneige Water Sleeping Mask. Want to have skin as nice as Song Hye Kyo even if you’re puyat (wakeful)?

Photo grabbed from their website

Claims: Overnight mask that gives the skin a lively, well-rested appearance the next morning thanks to its Sleep-tox™ purifying effect.

So last night, I added this to my night skin care routine. This routine is for the nights I don’t scrub and use masks. I washed my face, applied my pimple solution and serum, then finished it with Laneige Water Sleeping Mask.

It smells super refreshing and relaxing. I can’t lay a finger on it, but it’s really so good! It has a texture of a gel, only it’s not as thick and clumpy. It applies smoothly on the skin and does not feel sticky at all. Waking up was the best part! I’m not lying, you guys! My skin felt and looked plump and well-moisturized! Busog na busog sa moisture! OMG!

It felt like I wore a facial mask the night before. I believe it has also helped my pimple solution to work well, because it gave my skin all the good stuff it needs.

According to Laneige website, this product has SLEEP-TOX™ technology that purifies skin during sleep. It helps rejuvenate and normalize skin that is often fatigued during the day (or even at night!)

It also has MOISTURE WRAP™ that helps retain moisture throughout the night. Some of its active ingredients are Hydra Ion Mineral Water, evening primrose root extract, and Hunza apricot extract, that when absorbed by the skin, it will look and feel as if you’ve had a good 8 hours of sleep!

This mask also has skin-soothing agents that gently help the skin to recover overnight. It’s super light and non-comedogenic (won’t clog your pores!).

Moreover, the reason why I feel so relaxed the more I smell it, is because it has aromatic SLEEPSCENT™. “It is specially developed for Laneige Water Sleeping Mask that is an AMOREPACIFIC original. It allows our skin to relax and rest, boosting its ability to regenerate.”

Ingredients: Water, Butylene Glycol, Cyclopentasiloxane, Glycerin, Cyclohexasiloxane, Trehalose, Sodium Hyaluronate, Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Root Extract, Prunus Armeniaca (Apricot) Fruit Extract, Beta-Glucan, Chenopodium Quinoa Seed Extract, Ascorbyl Glucoside, Magnesium Sulfate, Zinc Sulfate, Manganese Sulfate, Calcium Chloride, Potassium Alginate, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Polysorbate 20, Dimethicone, Dimethiconol, Dimethicone/Vinyl Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Propanediol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Stearyl Behenate, Polyglyceryl-3 Methylglucose Distearate, HYDROXYPROPYL BISPALMITAMIDE MEA, Inulin Lauryl Carbamate, Alcohol, 1, 2-Hexanediol, Caprylyl Glycol, Carbomer, Tromethamine, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance, CI 42090

I have a small pot, which is 15ml. It only costs P160! Great deal, huh?! I knowwww! This is just the perfect size to try it out before buying the larger tub. The larger tub has 70ml and it only costs P850! Well, if you know where to buy.

Take note that other online shops sell the 70ml tub for P980 to P1,600. But Gabistar Korean Beauty & Talent, Product Magazine offers this amazing product for a much lower price! Yep! P850 only!

Final thoughts:

17351249_10212804241769196_787621821_n
This is definitely a MUST-HAVE! I will surely get the larger one!

I think this is also perfect for the owls in call centers. Since they don’t usually get the recommended 6-8 hours of sleep, this product will help them look as if they do!

Would you try it? Just in case you want to try it, contact Gabistar on Facebook and, do me a favor, tell them you found them here on my page when placing an order. (Thanks!) Also, you can PM me on my Facebook page!

May the PORES be with you… NOT! RIXREVIEWS: Sooper Beaute Candy POREfecting Cream Foundation

Follow my blog with Bloglovin

Pores… Pores… Pores… Spare me your mercy!

Hey there, Playmates! How’s it going?

If you have problems with pores and are looking for ways to hide them, but you want to stay within your budget, then you’ve made the right decision coming here!

Introducing…

Sooper Beaute Candy POREfecting Cream Foundation!

1

You’re welcome!

(Just a little disclaimer lang, this method does not SHRINK pores permanently. This only makes huge pores appear smaller, and smaller pores look even smaller.)

Okay, first and foremost, keep your face clean! This is pretty basic. We all know that a clean face is a MUST. This way, our skin looks brighter and the pores less visible.

Wash your face with your favorite cleanser; as for me it’s the Faith Hope Love Coffee Soap. Coffee has antioxidants and is believed to help tighten pores. It’s better to wash with warm water first, then finish with cold water. Warm water to open the pores and get cleaned; cold water to seal the deal. 😉

Use a cool facial mist before packing your face with makeup. Pop your mist in the refrigerator and let chill. This will freshen up your skin, close your pores, and keep the safe from bacteria and dirt. I recommend the Cucumber Hydrating Mist, also from Faith Hope Love.

Use a silicone-based primer! Primers can be really tricky. If you used too much or if you didn’t let it set properly, your makeup would just slide off easily. (Charged to experience!) Also, remember to pat it on the problem areas; do not rub! There are different types of primer – water-based, silicone-based, and oil-based. Silicone-based primers are recommended to those who have pore-blems. 😉 They sit on top of our skin and have pore-filling properties. Take note that silicone-based primers work much better on silicone-based foundations.

As for this look, I did not use my favorite primer. Instead, I used Sooper Beaute Candy POREfecting Cream Foundation, which also contains Dimethicone. ( Yep it is silicone!) By the way, this is a Filipino brand, formulated and manufactured here!

4
This is the final look.  Refer to my instagram post for the products used.

Packaging

The product is housed in a squeezable plastic dropper bottle, which is pretty neat because it gives you a better control on the amount of product you want to dispense. The plastic screw cap makes it hygienic and secure. Carrying it around is sooper convenient, since it’s small and lightweight. It usually comes in a box, but mine didn’t. Not that it matters. But hey, I want the box, too!

Ingredients

Since the bottle is too small, there isn’t enough space for the ingredients. If the ingredients were, indeed, printed on the label, I doubt they’d be readable. Mine didn’t come with a box, so I don’t know if they do have them listed there. So, I headed over their page and checked the product description.

The ingredients are as follows:

I think they really have to double check the spelling… 🙂

Aqua, Stearic Acid, Isostearic Acid, Polysorbate 65, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Triocranoin, Dimeticone, Titanium Dioxide, Cyclopentasiloxane, Silica, Iro Oxide,Phenoxyethanol, Buckwheat Ferment Extract, Bee Venom, Witchazel Extract

Like last time, let’s have a quick run-down.

Aqua is water; Stearic Acid is an emulsifying thickener with softening effect; Isostearic Acid is a binder; Polysorbate 65 is an emulsifier and a stabilizer for color; Glyceryl Stearate SE* gives the skin a soft and smooth appearance; Dimethicone fills in lines and wrinkles on the face and acts as a barrier on the skin; Titanium Dioxide is a whitening agent and a UV blocker, but stirred controversy due to some theories that it MIGHT be harmful to our health; Cyclopentasiloxane keeps the moisture locked in; Silica makes the distribution of pigments even; Iron Oxide is for the color; Buckwheat Ferment Extract is used as a natural antioxidant and anti-ageing material; and finally, Bee Venom is said to fight acne.

The other ingredients were excluded because they were either already mentioned in my previous posts or I couldn’t find a proper explanation from a proper source.

*Glyceryl Stearate is said to be comedogenic, so check the ingredients if it has SE after Stearate. If it does, it’s safe. SE stands for Self-Emulsifying.

Learning about the ingredients of the product is truly essential if you want to know which ones are good for the skin and which ones are not. Some of the ingredients are minerals, while some are derived from animals. If you’re vegan, then this is ABSOLUTELY not for you.

Scent

It has a gentle candy-like scent that isn’t irritating or over-powering. I guess it wasn’t named such for nothing.

Texture and Consistency

It has a thin consistency, a bit liquidy but not runny. When I put it on the back of my hand, it didn’t move or drip. I really like the texture of this foundation – smooth and really easy to work on. It blends easily and does not dry fast. It isn’t clumpy either so the application is as easy as pie.

Price

This small bottle with 15g of product only costs P180. I think this is budget-friendly, and would be a good choice for those who don’t want to splurge.

Usage

This product can be used as it is or as a makeup base. If you want to use it alone, you might want to build it up for a better coverage. One layer of it gives a sheer to light coverage, like how a tinted moisturizer would. It can be used with a brush or a beauty sponge, but as for me, I prefer applying it with my ring finger.

For me, the Candy POREfecting Cream Foundation works perfectly well with Beauskin Invisible Pores Foundation. It’s also silicone-based and it makes the skin look even. I have huge pores and pimple scars, and I’m not kidding when I say they appear smaller with these two products together.

2

The Invisible Pores Foundation gives you a dewy finish, while Candy POREfecting Cream Foundation is demi-matte – somewhere between dewy and matte. If you’re aiming for a dewy finish, you can leave it as it is. You can also pat on some pressed powder or use a stippling brush. Do NOT swirl the brush! 🙂 If you like a matte finish, then I suggest that you bake your face with loose powder.

REMEMBER! Whichever finish you’re going for, make sure you press your sponge against your skin to get everything blended together. (I learned this technique from Wayne Goss.)  I suggest that you do this after applying your foundation and concealer, after baking, and before you dust off the excess powder from baking.

5
This is the final look.  Refer to my instagram post for the products used.

There you have it! For less than P1,000, you can have LESS PORES (if not PORELESS)!

Watch my review on Beauskin Invisible Pores Foundation here:

I also have a video of this dewy makeup look, but it’s still up for editing. I’ll keep this post updated! 🙂

UPDATE: The video’s finally up on my channel! Watch it here:

For now, here’s the final look with these two foundations:

3
I didn’t use to like dewy looks, but boy oh boy, I’m lovin’ this glowing, healthy-looking skin! Where are my pores? xD

MONTHLY FAVES: Jan. to Jun. 2017

Hey there, Playmates! Today, I wanna share with you my favorite makeup items or tools for the months of January to June.

Just remember! The products shown under a certain month, may not have been purchased in the same month. There were times it took me a while before I truly appreciated a certain product.

So without any further achuchuchu, let’s get started!

January

Colourette Colourstick in the shade York

7

Eversince I got this, I had been wearing this lippie for the whole month! It’s from their Morena Love Collection. As you can see, it is a delicious greige shade that has a little more brown tone to it. I LOVE bold lipstick shades, so when this particular shade came out, I knew I had to have it. PLUS it’s pigmented, made with natural ingredients, moisturizing, and local!

Price: P499
Where I bought it: Christine Herrera of South Stylista

EB Advance LTD Liquid Lipstick in the shade Rich Vino

10

Another local brand that made into my faves list is this EB Advance LTD Liquid Lipstick in Rich Vino. In all honesty, although I had some Ever Bilena products, I never used to be a fan. But this particular product changed everything. When matte liquid lipsticks boomed, a lot of Pinoy brands released their own line, but – let’s be honest – a lot of them weren’t even close to those of the expensive  foreign brands. Then this happened. I’m really impressed that for its really REALLY low price point, I hit a jackpot. The color pay off and the pigmentation left me open-mouthed. It felt comfortable on the lips, too. It lasted for hours, and did not budge when I ate or drank. It faded a little but retouching was never a problem. Just remember that it does not dry down to matte in a snap; it usually takes minutes before it completely sets.

Price: P180
Where I bought it: Watson’s

February

Colourpop Ultra Matte Lip and Ultra Satin Lip

9

For this month, the first on the list are these liquid lipsticks from Colourpop. These were my first Colourpop, to be honest, and that’s when I fully realized why this particular brand gets a lot of love. It’s not just because it’s affordable, but because it does work amazingly! I got two Ultra Satin – Hutch and Calypso; and one Ultra Matte – Notion. Despite the fact that I prefer Ultra Satin than Ultra Matte due to its creamy finish, I still love using either of them whenever I go out. I feel unfazed when I have any of them on my lips; I just know I won’t look stupid with patchy lips.

Price: P410 (might be lower in other sellers)
Where I bought it: @themakeupstore.mnl

Ginger and Aki

8

This isn’t makeup, but this is one of my must-wears this month. It’s a leather bracelet from @gingerandaki and it was included in my Saladbox. As you can see, it’s super simple, but that’s why I adored it. I am in love with its simplicity. The magnetic locks add class to it. I wore this every single day I went out and I felt naked without it. Because of this, it started to wear out, and I need to get a new one!

Where you can buy it: @gingerandaki

March

BH Cosmetics Shaaanxo Palette

This has become a total must-have for me. Since it’s got 9 eyeshadows and 9 lip colors, what more can you ask for? The pigmentation is amazing. The eyeshadow shades, which are matte and shimmery, are good for day to night looks; the lip colors look and feel good on the lips. I didn’t use to like the lip products but as I kept on wearing them, I started to appreciate them. They actually feel good on the lips and they can stay on for hours! It’s convenient for travelling; you won’t need too many products in your kit.

Price: $14.50 (I got it in a bundle so the price was lower.)
Where I bought it: BH Cosmetics

BH Cosmetics BH Liquid Eyeliner

bh

Another one from BH Cosmetics, this is the BH Liquid Eyeliner in Black. I got this in a bundle, along with the Shaaanxo Palette. I. LOVE. THIS. PRODUCT. Next to my all-time fave Tony Moly Back Gel Liner, this is my go-to eyeliner. It’s easy to use. It does not clump or cut off during the application. It glides smoothly. It lasts all day! (And all night when I fell asleep with my makeup on!) I highly recommend this product.

Price: $4.99 (Watch out for promos! Sometimes it’s free!)
Where I bought it: BH Cosmetics

Faith. Hope. Love. Coffee Soap

faithhopelove coffee soap

I have two separate blog posts where I mentioned this particular product. Please click the links below:

SPOILER: I AM IN LOOOVE WITH THIS SOAP

Price: P150
Where you can buy it: @faithhopeloveskinfood

Faith. Hope. Love. Cucumber Hydrating Mist

faithhopelove coffee mist

This has become a staple product in my routine. I spray it on after washing my face and before my moisturizer. This is also included in my post “Pinoy Products You Should Try Right Now!”

Price: P160/50ml
Where I bought it: @faithhopeloveskinfood

April

Huda Beauty Liquid Matte Minis The Red Edition

4

My first high-end brand! Haha! Who wouldn’t be excited to have these?! These are from a friend who works in Dubai. Getting a minis set is so much better than getting only 1 or 2 full-sized products. In this set, I get 4 gorgeous red shades – 3 mattes and 1 metallic. The ones with matte finish are Heartbreaker, Material Girl, and Famous. So that leaves Showgirl. I have used all these shades and have tested their performance. I am in loooove! It has a really thin consistency, but the pigmentation is CRAZY!

Watch this video below for more:

Price: (depends on the seller)

Kiss Me Better Lip Creams

6

This is Kay’s (aka Mojito Monologues on YouTube) newest line – her very own organic lip creams. I had them in March, but it really hit me last April. I used them almost every day both on my lips and my cheeks. The cooling sensation soothes my lips while giving off a natural color. They’re also really easy to blend, so using them on my cheeks was never a problem. They’re also transfer-proof once they completely set. I have two out of five shades namely: Naked (nude with a hint of pink); and Vamp (a dark shade of red).

Price: P230
Where I bought them: @kissmebettermnl

Terra Merita Natural Oil Cocktail; Watering Cocktail

13

I got a handful of product samples from Mara when she came home for Christmas. I was quite hesitant at first, mainly because all the details were written in Japanese. (Thanks, Google Translate!) Basically, it’s a natural facial oil that moisturizes your face. It comes with hydrating liquid that also acts as a toner. Continuous use of this product gives a positive result.

May

Beauskin Invisible Pores Foundation

1
L-R: Makeup World Cover Up Foundation, Revlon Nearly Naked Liquid Foundation, L’Oreal Stay Fresh Foundation, Beauskin Invisible Pores Foundation, and NYX Total Control Drop Foundation

I have oily skin so I always stayed away from foundations with dewy finish. So when I got it back in April, I felt a little disappointed because it was super dewy, BUT I did love it because it truly minimized the appearance of my pores PLUS it is lightweight. My skin looked really smooth most especially after baking and setting it with loose powder. When we stayed in Baguio for three days, this was my go-to foundation. I thought this foundation was the better choice since it was cold in Baguio. Matte foundations turn really patchy when the weather is cold.

Price: P420
Where I bought it: Christine Herrera of South Stylista

A-Skin Sebo Control Shampoo

sebo
Photo grabbed from Google

This is one of the prizes I received from YEF Philippines. This is not your ordinary shampoo. When it says it clears our scalp and hair from oil, dandruff, and excess sebum, it DOES clear all the dirty stuff! But remember to use a conditioner afterwards, as it could feel a little dry. If you have oily scalp and hair, I highly recommend it! It’s a bit pricey though, so I guess I’ll have to start saving up while I’m halfway down the bottle.

Price: P500 (regular price: P625)
Where you can buy it: YEF Philippines

Karadium

selfie

I looove all these Karadium products! Kindly check out my separate post:

RIXREVIEWS: K-Beauty – Karadium

Where you can buy them: YEF Philippines

Real Techniques Ultimate Base Set

11

These are my first Real Techniques makeup tools and I finally understand why they’ve gotten so much love from many makeup enthusiasts. They work like magic! I love how the Expert Face Brush (the big one) blends my foundation nicely and pushes the product into the pores, giving it a medyo flawless na look. The Miracle Complexion Sponge works just as fine, so I can’t really tell which I like more. The Deluxe Concealer Brush can also be used as a blending brush for eyeshadows, but it also does what it was built for. It blends the concealer seamlessly. The only trouble, perhaps, is that it’s too small that working on the undereye takes a longer time.

Price: P1,050
Where I bought it: KALM Cosmetics

 Sheet Masks

sheet masks
Photo grabbed from Google (I DO hope, tho, that I have this many!)

Korean sheet masks have finally taken a huge space in my heart! I was never a fan; I didn’t understand what the fuss was all about, until YEF Philippines gave me three awesome sheet masks, and that’s when my love blossomed! I used sheet masks for 5 consecutive days as a treatment or therapy for my terrible skin. Moisturizing is the key to make other facial products work more effectively! It softens the skin making it easier for the skin to absorb any product we apply. Then, I set a schedule for my home facial treatment every Monday and Thursday. (See: Taking Facial Care More Seriously)

Price starts at P25
Where you can buy it: BeautyMNLYEF Philippines, and many other online shops (make sure they’re legit!)

Skin Food Black Sugar Mask Wash Off

3

I had seen so many positive feedbacks on this product and the moment I learned it was one of the prizes I received from the YEF PH giveaway, I was thrilled! Although I started using it the previous month, it only started really getting into me three weeks ago. I didn’t regularly use it last month, until I began my own skin care routine this month. I love this product from the smell to its texture to what it actually does to my skin after rinsing. My skin feels uber clean and smooth afterwards, I know it really does remove the nasty stuff on my face. The best thing about this product – it’s made with natural ingredients!

Price: P300 (reg. price of P462)
Where you can buy it: YEF Philippines

And that wraps up this blog. Thanks very much for reading and making it all the way here!

RIXREVIEWS: K-Beauty – KARADIUM

If you have been following me on Instagram or on YouTube, you would know that I was one of the lucky BFF’s who won amazing Korean beauty products from YEF Philippines.

YEF ALL

Most of the makeup products that we received are from the brand called Karadium. Karadium has been in the market since 2010 offering unique products that become international bestsellers. Their products are also paraben-free!

Thanks to YEF, I’ve been able to use these amazing products! Now, let’s get on with the review! 😉

Collagen Moisture 2-Way Cake Foundation in #23

two cake
Photo grabbed from their website

*Price:

  • Karadium website: ₩26,000 (around P1,147)
  • YEF PH website: P480 (reg. price: P1,083)
(*May vary depending on KRW to PHP conversion.)

Just like any other two-way cake foundation, this can be used wet or dry. It has a round mirror that’s the same size as the compact itself. Like a Korean BB cushion, it has separate a pan for the puff.

It gives off a better coverage and a smooth-looking skin when used wet. If you’re going for a longer-lasting coverage, this is the way to go. Simply wet the puff or any sponge of your choice, then squeeze out the water before applying it onto the skin.

For dry application, this foundation is good for setting your liquid or cream foundation. I think the finish is too powdery so using a mist afterwards will be a good idea. It can also be used as it is for a light coverage.

Since most Korean foundations or BB creams are light, No. 23, which is the darkest, is still quite light for me. I always have to use a bronzing powder or a darker powder to neutralize the color.

As for the scent, it is really subtle, so it’s okay for those who are quite sensitive with odors.

I like how this looks on my skin once it sets. It also does not make my face too oily after hours. It kinda gives my skin a healthy dewy look. I also love the fact that it has SPF 25 PA++, protecting my skin from the sun. It also has anti-sebum properties that help absorb excess oil.

Cream Cheek Stick in No. 5 Shading

cream cheek
Photo grabbed from their website

*Price:

  • Karadium website: ₩25,000 (around P1,101)
  • YEF PH website: P520 (reg. price: P1,042)
(*May vary depending on KRW to PHP conversion; may be lower during PROMOS/SALE)

This product has five shades:

  • #1 Indie Pink (blush)
  • #2 Warm Coral (blush)
  • #3 Soft Peach (blush)
  • #4 Highlighter
  • #5 Shading

The shade that I’ve got is for contouring.  But since I, like most Filipinos, have tanned skin, this will not give enough definition on the face. It will only give a really subtle effect, which isn’t bad if you’re going for a natural look.

I really love the packaging and the fact that it comes with a flat top brush, which is placed on the other end of the product. Super convenient! The product itself is soft and creamy that it glides smoothly and blends nicely.

Initially, I didn’t think I’d like this shade because I normally used dark brown on my brows. It turned out that it was just fine, since my eyebrows are naturally black. It isn’t as dark as black, but it’s definitely good for filling in my brows.

It’s an angled pencil, which I think is perfect for natural brow makeup, so it doesn’t create harsh lines nor does it clump my brow hairs. It can be used alone or with other brow products such as gel, pomade, or powder.

It also comes with a spoolie, which is on the other end of the pencil. It makes doing my brows convenient, since I don’t need to bring a separate spoolie when I travel.

The only downside is the fact that it is a retractable pencil; once it breaks, it IS broken. I may put the broken pencil back into the tube, but it won’t securely stay put. If worse comes to worst, I lose that pencil… then, bye, bye!

Well, I guess I just have to be extra careful with it. 😉

Here are the other shades:

  • #1 Black Brown
  • #2 Dark Brown
  • #3 Real Brown
  • #4 Gray Brown
  • #5 Light Brown

Shining Pearl Eyeshadow Stick in No. 6 Chocolate Brown

  • YEF PH website: P360 (reg. price: P625)
(*May vary depending on KRW to PHP conversion; may be lower during PROMOS/SALE)

This is perfect for those who are always on-the-go! With its pen-type retractable eyeshadow that has a really smooth texture, you won’t need high makeup skills to apply it. You won’t also need to bring a separate brush or mess up your finger because it already comes with a sponge tip for blending.

As seen in the photo above, it comes in 10 shades, and mine is the 6th one from the left – Chocolate Brown. What I do is apply it on my entire lid, just beneath my crease. Then, I blend it out with the sponge blender. I want to intensify the crease area so I focus on it more. Then, blend it out again.

This shade can be used alone or with other makeup products. It’s also good for days when I want a natural look. It looks better with a nice eyeliner, too!

The other shades look really pretty, I might try and get some.

The names of the shades are:

  • # 1 Snow White
  • #2 Ice Pink
  • #3 Orange Marmalade
  • #4 Gold Night
  • #5 Honey Beige
  • #6 Chocolate Brown
  • #7 Daily Brown
  • #8 Caramel Gold
  • #9 Rose Gold
  • #10 Reddish Pink

On the Top Fiber Curling Mascara

*Price:

(*May vary depending on KRW to PHP conversion; may be lower during PROMOS/SALE)

This mascara has two variants: curling and volume. Take a look at the photo above. Notice that the wands are different from each other. The one with the curled wand is for curling, (obviously); while the one on the right, the thicker one, is for volume.

I LOOOVE this mascara. The formula is so good that it does not clump my eyelashes. The curled wand is thin enough that it can reach the extremities. I usually find it hard to apply mascara on the lashes near the corner of my eyes, but this product has made it a lot easier. As well as with my lower lashes, the application requires little effort.

One thing that I don’t like about it is, it tends to smudge. I have very oily skin that’s why I prefer using waterproof mascaras and eyeliners. When my face oils up and the lashes touch the skin, it smudges and creates black patches on my under eye and the outer corners. If I had dry skin, I don’t think it would be a problem.

Oh My Lips in No. 1 Deep Red

Photo grabbed from their website

*Price:

  • Karadium website: ₩14,000 (around P617)
  • YEF PH website: P340 (reg. price: P583)
(*May vary depending on KRW to PHP conversion; may be lower during PROMOS/SALE)

The packaging of this lipstick is A-OK! Ingenious! Instead of the usual pull-up cap, it has a twist-up cap! Yes, you twist the cap to open, and just twist again to lock it. No more messy pouches or bags! No more dented or broken lippies!

The product itself is really pigmented. I can create a bold look by applying it evenly on my entire lips. To create a “naturally bitten lips” look, I concentrate on the inner center of my lower lip then smudge it with a brush or my finger to cover the rest of my lips. This creates a gradient look – dark in the center and light on the edges.

It’s so creamy it effortlessly slides on my lips and blends beautifully. It does not settle in the lines or crevices or in the dry areas. Like any other cream lipsticks, it is not transfer-proof or smudge-proof.

It has 6 shades:

  • #1 Deep Red
  • #2 Orange Red
  • #3 Tangerine
  • #4 Royal Pink
  • #5 Peachy Pink
  • #6 Pink Beige
  • #7 Pink Balm

  • YEF PH website: P270 (reg. price: P417)

Another Karadium product that I loooove! This puff is so good that you won’t think it’s inexpensive. It’s in a bottle gourd shape, which I find more convenient than the teardrop shape. The inner curves make holding it easier and more secure. IMO!

This puff almost doubles in size when damp. It’s really soft it gently bounces on my face, blending my makeup well without hurting my skin.

The tip reaches the curves and crevices of my face, just like what we all expect from any other beauty sponges.

I haven’t tried a Beauty Blender yet, so I don’t really know the difference. But I can compare it with my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. To be honest, I find both of them effective and I think they work pretty much the same. The difference, apparently, are their shapes.

They also have a cute collaboration with Pucca, which is a super cute collection! It’s the Karadium x Pucca.

Pucca Shine Eyeshadow in No. 4 Antique Shine

*Price:

  • Karadium website: ₩16,000 (around P705)
  • YEF PH website: P299 (reg. price: P690)
(*May vary depending on KRW to PHP conversion; may be lower during PROMOS/SALE)

First of all, it has a really cute packaging. With a transparent cover with Pucca printed on it, this compact single eyeshadow is truly an eye-catcher.

It comes in six pretty shades:

  • #1 Beige Shine
  • #2 Gold Shine
  • #3 Flower Shine
  • #4 Antique Shine
  • #5 Sunshine
  • #6 Smoky Shine

Notice that all shades are really close to skin tones; they are intended to make our eyes look pretty but still gravitate towards natural look. It’s really soft and does not dry our sensitive eyelids. It also lasts throughout the day without creasing.

I love how buttery it feels and does not have a lot of kickback when using a brush. It gives off a proper amount of pigmentation with both brush and finger.

This can be used as it is, but it can also be used along with other makeup products.

Pucca Pen Eyeliner in Black

*Price:

  • YEF PH website: P290 (reg. price: P583)
(*May vary depending on KRW to PHP conversion; may be lower during PROMOS/SALE)

This, among everything I received, is my most favorite! The packaging is super cute! It looks like a pen. The container is thicker than the usual eyeliners, so I find it easier to control because it just feels like any other regular pens.

It has a really soft tip making the application super easy. It’s like an art brush pen; I can create thick or thin lines effortlessly. It is an ink-tank type so the product is dispensed evenly, preventing the eyeline from cutting-off. The formulation is stunning, but make sure you shake it well to get the full pigmentation.

This eyeliner holds up pretty well since it’s waterproof, but it can’t withstand the oiliness of my face during hot and humid weather. The good thing about it, though, is that re-application is not a problem. I just re-apply when the color fades off and it looks perfect again.

RIXREVIEWS: BH Cosmetics vs Tony Moly vs Other Brands | Battle of my Fave and Not-So-Fave Eyeliners

A look cannot be complete without an eyeliner. It’s like an almost perfect cupcake without the frosting.

chocolate-cupcakes-with-mint-chocolate-chip-frosting-17
(Photo not mine. Grabbed from Google for reference only.)

Eyeshadows look more fabulous with a beautifully lined eye. The only problem you can have is getting panda eyes! Unless you wanna pull off a Lady Gaga:

gagaliner-panda
(Again grabbed from Google.)

Or if you’re channeling Bey-Bey’s cry face:

beyoncecryface
(Google photo #3)

Or, maybe it’s because you just love Po in Kung Fu Panda and you wanna look like him.

po
(Google photo #4)

We all know how difficult it is to apply an eyeliner, especially if you wanna do the cateye. Even the slightest wing needs to be applied with extreme caution.

saytioco.jpg
Insert one of my fave YouTube makeup vloggers, Say Tioco, who always creates that perfect wing!

And when we DO make it, at the end of the day, it’s either rubbed off or smudged.

That’s the very reason why I usually don’t put eyeliner on my waterline. If I do, I just use my Tony Moly Back Gel Liner on the outer half of my waterline. I gently apply it with a pen brush then spread it with a small flat brush. Then add a touch of an eyeshadow.

I have tried a number of liquid eyeliners, and not one of them lived up to their claims. They all said they were waterproof and smudge proof,  but they all LIED! Okay, perhaps they WERE waterproof, but they didn’t survive my oily skin.

Anyways, some of the liquid [and gel] eyeliners that I’ve tried are:

  • Almost every eyeliner from Avon. I don’t know why, but most makeup products from Avon make my eyes feel watery, droopy, and sleepy. Shortly after that, I would start having headaches and then my day was cut short – because I just had to sleep my headache away! Not to mention, the product smears around my eyes. (Don’t have photo of them. Some of them were emptied, while some were given away.)
  • A cheap “Korean” dual ended pen eyeliner from an unpopular brand called “Can Ya”, which I doubt is Korean, because I bought it in a Chinese thrift store. But if you check this page http://www.dhgate.com/product/1-x-canya-new-brand-makeup-beauty-sharp-black/378053421.html, it says it’s Japanese and Korean. As I have mentioned, it’s dual-ended, which means, one end is a pen eyeliner; while the other end is a stamp in the shape of a star. It’s also easy to use, but it doesn’t last long. I didn’t really expect much from it because it was really super affordable.
    can-ya
  • EB Advance Dip Liner. I bought it because: (1) I was going to create a makeup look and I needed an eyeliner; and (2) because it was super cheap it only cost me less than a hundred pesos. Unfortunately, it didn’t work well after the first use. The brush tip became loose and stiff and it wouldn’t glide on smoothly. Because of this, the product couldn’t be distributed evenly, not even properly. Even though it was very affordable, I felt like it was such a waste to still have so much that I couldn’t use. As for the main product itself, it dries pretty quickly and finishes into sort of a film, if I may call it that. You can actually scratch it or peel it off.
    eb-advance
  • Shawill Eyeliner HD. This is a local brand, but the product is made in Korea. So, technically, it isn’t really local. However, it is sold at a very affordable price, so it is perfect for people like me, who are on a budget.
This eyeliner has a very thin brush tip, which is kinda good, because it enables you to correct and perfect some crooked lines in your eyeliner. The downside, though, is that due to its thin brush tip, it isn’t good for lining and shaping your eyes. It will take you a while before you finish one eye! It also finishes into a film, which can be peeled off, too.
    shawill
  • Maybelline Hyper Matte Liquid Eyeliner. At first I thought, “This is Maybelline, and most Maybelline products work just fine. So perhaps this will be just as good.” The first time I used it, I was impressed. The second time I did, I thought I did something wrong because it wasn’t as manageable. The product had become chunky and it wasn’t as smooth as the first time. I gave the bottle a little shake, I cleaned the brush tip, and dipped it again. But to no avail, it just got chunky still.
(Can’t find mine. Did I throw it away? I don’t think I did, but I can’t find it!)

    maybe.jpg
Grabbed this from my Instagram @myrikaness

Again, it was such a waste of money and I was so heart broken. So, I searched again and found…

  • Tony Moly Back Gel Liner. I saw on some reviews that it was a really good gel liner because it didn’t smudge. They would even rub it and it didn’t budge. Impressive! My first gel liner was from Ebay and it sucked because it never dried up. It was like a tinted petroleum jelly.
I have never used other eyeliners ever since I got this one from Tony Moly, on Althea Korea. The Back Gel Liner is, indeed, smudge proof, but it isn’t invincible. Somehow, it still can’t withstand the oiliness of my face. It still smears a little, but it isn’t as bad as the others.
It comes with a brush, which is really soft. However, I personally prefer a thin brush to apply this gel liner.
tony-molyI was really satisfied with it UNTIL THIS CAME…
  • BH Cosmetics BH Liquid Eyeliner, which I got along with a BH Cosmetics Blending Brush #12, when I purchased their Shaaanxo palette. It was their Daily Deal at that time. I wasn’t, at all, excited, until I got to use it on Friday. That night, (Warning: Graphic Content. LOL) I fell asleep with my makeup on! (Don’t do this at home! xD )
When I saw myself in the mirror, I was shocked! My mascara had smudged, but my eyeliner was still intact! Actually, it was the ONLY makeup product on my face that was still holding up! I rubbed it and it still didn’t budge! WTF, right?! You can’t imagine how impressed I was! The swatch on the back of my hand was still there, even though I had washed my hands several times throughout the day! But don’t worry, girls, you can just simply use a makeup remover or micellar water to remove it. 😉 In addition, I love using pen eyeliners because it’s easier to control and use.
    bh

Over all, BH Liquid Eyeliner is the BEST one I’ve used! (Tony Moly’s the second best!)

My final thoughts:

love.png
I looove it and I highly recommend it. For only $5.5o, c’mon!

Hmmh… This makes me want to make a video on Tony Moly Back Gel Liner and BH Liquid Eyeliner! Why not, right? Just to test out which of my two favorites works better.

RIXREVIEWS: April Skin Magic Snow Cushion Black

These were gifts from Guil’s sister, Mara (Thank you, Mara!), when she came home from abroad before Christmas.

This cushion actually has three variants: Black, White, and Pink. The Pink one is suitable for all four seasons, and it is perfect for dry and combination skin. It has a really dewy finish but very light coverage.

The White one is suitable for Winter and Spring and is also perfect for dry and combination skin type. In addition, it has a dewy finish, but not as dewy as Pink.

Now, this one that I have is Black (obviously!) and this is just perfect for me because it’s for oily and combination skin! It’s also perfect for Summer and Autumn, which is good because I live in the Philippines where it’s almost always sunny! It is also hydrating but has a matte finish!

This compact has a substantial amount of product that even if you press very lightly, the puff can pick up enough product to cover half of your face. It is blendable and buildable and has medium coverage. Mine is in the shade No. 23, Medium Beige. This is the darkest of all 3 shades.

I love using BB cushions when I’m in a hurry because it lessens the amount of time I spend in putting makeup. Just press and pat, pat, pat!

The best part? It has SPF 50+ PA+++! Great protection from the sun!

Here I am using my April Skin Magic Snow Cushion Black in No. 23:

RIXREVIEWS: Elizavecca Skin Liar Primer

el

I got this from Althea Korea, and if you’ve read my previous post about Althea Korea, you’d know how I found out about this product.

The packaging awakens the kid in us. Designed like a game console, this product will not fail to catch your eye. The “game” shows the skin and the pores being protected by the primer from dirt and other unpleasant stuff. It also locks in moisture so our skin won’t be dehydrated. Also, it gets the oil locked up so our skin won’t oil up easily as we go throughout the day. It’s an amazing representation of what the product can do. On the top flap, you’ll be welcomed by a pair of green eyes.

eliz

The tube opening is sealed with a foil tape, making sure it’s clean. eli

The product is a peachy cream with quite a thick consistency.

eliza
screengrabbed from my Althea Mini Haul video (click image to watch)

It smells so good! Refreshingly good that won’t irritate your nose. It blends smoothly on my skin, despite the slight tackiness.

After letting it set for about 5 minutes, applying my foundation on top makes it much easier.

elizav.jpg
with L’Oreal Infallible Stay Fresh Foundation on top of the primer

My makeup stayed but I had shine on my face after a few hours. Despite the shine, I still felt fresh and I could only blot out little oil after a few hours.

In my opinion, there’s nothing any product can do to tame my oily face. So yeah.
As for the price, I got it for only PhP 280, but its regular price is PhP 1,000. I’d say it was a good buy.

Hmmmh, let me start “rating” with this product.

Packaging:cute

Product Description: two-thumbs-up(with the help of Google Translate)

Ease of Application: excellent

Scent: i-love-it

Performance: im-into-it but I hope it’s more long-wearing

Price: no-doubtbecause I got it for a discounted price. I don’t think I’d buy it in its regular price.

Overall:

yes-or-no
Definitely a YES!

RIXFIRSTS: Althea Korea x Elizavecca x Tony Moly

For almost a week, I was in distress every time I used my Rimmel London Stay Matte Primer. Good thing I did not totally give up and, finally, I was able to figure out how to use it properly.

However, before I was able to put two and two together, it hadn’t been a good week for me. I literally was on the verge of crying. My heart was broken to pieces. I was so frustrated why that celebrated primer wouldn’t work on me! Because of this, I decided to look for a different primer that performed well. That’s when I came across a blog where I learned about Elizavecca Skin Liar Primer. The blogger had good words for it, so I got interested in the product.

Because of this I decided to go to Althea Korea’s webpage, and saw that it only cost PhP 280! I wanted to buy two, afraid that it might go up eventually. 😀 The problem, though, was the PhP 250 shipping fee! I thought, if I were to buy the two primers, plus the shipping fee, then that would mean I had to spend almost PhP 800! Just a few bucks away from their “buy-PhP 1,000-get-free-shipping” promo. That’s when I thought of checking out the gel liner I was dying to have – Tony Moly Back Gel Eyeliner. Surprise! Surprise! It was only sold for, more or less, Php 200! So much cheaper than other online shops! (Not sure though how much it is sold in Tony Moly kiosks/shops.) So I added it to my cart, but I still needed at least Php 149 to complete the PhP 1,000 bill. I chose the Tony Tint Delight from Tony Moly, in the shade Orange Cha Cha.

I waited for Althea Korea’s confirmation. As soon as they confirmed my order, they provided me with the shipping details, along with a tracking number. The handing over of my order was pretty fast. Then after around 10 days, my parcel came via LBC!

I’m so happy with the products, but of course, it’s still too soon to actually say something. That’s why, I’ll post a separate review on each of the products, where I’ll give my opinions with 100% honesty without trying to convince myself that I had spent my money right. 😀
