Makeup for Rainy Days with CATHY DOLL

The season for pluviophiles has begun, and it’s terrorizing those who are not. :p I don’t love the rain, but I don’t hate it even. If it rains and I’m at home, I like staying in bed, getting wrapped in blankets, reading a book, or watching a very interesting Korean drama or American TV series, or just SLEEPING! Going out is the last thing on my mind when it pours. (But I DO love the smell of rain on grass.)

There are two things that pop in my mind when I think of the word “rain”:

Gloomy. Fresh.

I know… They’re contradicting, but isn’t it true? The dismal sky turns down our mood meter, but the image of wet grass and trees reminds us of cleansing.

However, rainy season can be quite unforgiving on our skin. No skin type is safe. Whether it is oily, combination, or dry, one thing must be done – HYDRATE.

This is the season when our skin gets really crazy and unstable. It gets dehydrated and dull, but can also become oily.

Might as well use makeup products that can give us protection any time of the day.

Cathy Doll Acne Solution Serum + Foam Cleanser

7.jpg

As I mentioned earlier, this season can be unforgiving on our skin. Due to high humidity, our skin gets more prone to all the nasty stuff. With Cathy Doll Acne Solution Serum + Foam Cleanser, I thoroughly washed my face. It’s a bit liquidy and it doesn’t get too foamy. It lathers on my skin really smoothly and it smells good. I can’t lay a finger on it but I think it has a minty scent to it.

According to the packaging, it:

  • is anti acne
  • for sensitive skin
  • has oil control
  • is brightening
  • is a spot remover
  • has tea tree serum

My skin felt really clean and fresh afterwards. It felt soft to touch.

This sachet has 6ml of the product and costs only P16.

Cathy Doll Water Splash Essence

Now my face was fully-cleansed, I had to bring back some moisture that I lost after washing. Also, this weather can be super dehydrating as our body does not produce as much liquid as it normally does.

I have two (out of three) Cathy Doll Splash Essence products – one is Milky (the blue one) and the other one is Water (the pink one). I used Water Splash Essence first, not because it has L-Glutathione, but because it claims to tighten pores.

5

The product is thicker than the foam cleanser. It’s a bit moussy, but once applied on the skin, it turns watery. It did feel moisturizing afterwards, and it did brighten my skin. No wonder it also says “Sweet Dream Quick Step Whitening” at the bottom of the packet.

I noticed that my pores did seem minimized and I’m happy that it worked.

This has 5g and costs only P50. No worries! A little goes a long way so a small packet can last you for weeks.

Cathy Doll Whitening Sunscreen L-Glutathione Magic Cream

4

Just because it rains doesn’t mean there’s no sun. I used Cathy Doll Whitening Sunscreen L-Glutathione Magic Cream to keep my skin protected from the harmful UV rays. This has SPF 50 PA +++ and I LOVE IT for that!

It also has a cooling effect and spreads all over the skin smoothly. It smells like the usual facial cream, very gentle and not overpowering. It also brightens up the skin, making it look fresher and more radiant. I’ll surely repurchase.

This packet holds 8ml of the product and costs P40. Not bad for SPF 50!

Cathy Doll CC Cream Speed White

6

To stay looking healthy and fresh even in this crazy humid, gloomy, and rainy weather, I suggest you try this CC Cream from Cathy Doll. It also has SPF 50 PA +++, it brightened up my skin and it made my skin look smooth and clear.

It has a thin consistency, which is good, as it easily blends in very smoothly. It has a light coverage but buildable to medium, but careful not to put too much as it can look too light. I got the shade #1 Light Beige, which is too light for my skin tone, but eventually it oxidized and looked more natural.

It didn’t have a dewy finish. It looked demi-matte, though. Just a teenie bit of tackiness, but definitely not sticky. I was aiming for a natural glowy, healthy look, so I used a liquid illuminator underneath it. I applied it on areas where we usually add our highlighter.

I blended everything with my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. I pressed it a little firmly against my skin to make it look even more natural. You can also use your finger or a brush, but I think a sponge is a much better choice.

I didn’t bake, but I dusted it with L.A. Colors Pressed Powder, using my fluffiest powder brush. It looked good because it still looked dewy, unfortunately my face had an oil party after about three hours. The good thing was, after blotting so much oil (I used two sheets and it wasn’t really enough), it looked fine again, not cakey or blotchy.

This CC cream has 6g of product and only costs P40.

All Cathy Doll products mentioned above were bought at a 7-11 branch. Unfortunately, they aren’t available in the malls near us, but glad they’re available at 7-11. I commend Cathy Doll for creating affordable travel-size sachets, making it convenient for everybody. I also appreciate the fact that I didn’t have any breakouts or irritation after using all these products.

RIXREVIEWS: Detail Make Over All Matte Eyeshadow Palettes

I am so happy to see more makeup products that we can call “our very own”. Actually, there are too many now, it’s overwhelming! However, most of them look pretty much the same things, only packaged differently.

Lipsticks, whether they’re bullets, liquid, or tints, are the most common ones. Very, very few come up with eyeshadows, but I think none of them are made here in the Philippines.

I mean, yeah, they’re local BRANDS, but not locally MADE. If you know what I mean…

I noticed that they’re made in China; I’m not saying that it’s bad, it’s just that I hope they’re made here. I’m not sure if they were formulated here and was just manufactured and packaged there; or if they were bought from China, then repackaged and rebranded here.

That makes me wonder, aren’t there any makeup laboratories here in our country?

For lipsticks, I’m sure there are. But for eyeshadows, nah.

Nevertheless, I’m still happy to see that local makeup companies are now coming up with new products – products that are mostly made available by international companies.

Anyways, this is getting longer and nowhere, let me just go ahead and start with the review.

So, as I was saying… I’m happy that local brands are now releasing more makeup products and one of these brands is Detail Make Over by Cosmetix Unlimited. They also have lipsticks, blushes, eyeliners, highlighters, etc. But I think what made them really relevant in the beauty world, aside from their matte liquid lipstick, is their Contour and Blush Effects 4-in-1 Palette. I got mine from Beauty MNL and here’s the first look I created with it:

(By the way, this is quite an old video and I’m sorry for the poor quality! Please excuse my akwardness!)

Detail Make Over recently released their first eyeshadow palettes. I first saw them while browsing Beauty MNL’s website. I looked for reviews, but there weren’t any. So, I decided to just get both palettes and see for myself.

1

These palettes are really affordable! P265 for a palette with 9 matte eyeshadows? Not bad! It’s got every shade that I’ll need to create a day or a night makeup look.  Of course, for such a price point, we cannot expect it to be super impressive.

It doesn’t feel silky or buttery, but it does feel smooth on my fingertips. It’s powdery so it has a lot of kick back with the brush, which is a lot similar with their contour palette.

SWATCHES
Arm swatches of the Day palette (left) and the Night palette (right)

The pigmentation is not as vibrant as Morphe or Juvia’s, but it’s buildable. This is perfect for beginners, they won’t pack too much product on their eyes by mistake.

The color pay-off is pretty good. What you see on the palette is also what you’ll see on the swatches.

My eyes did not feel strange or become watery, so I’d say it’s safe to use. However, if you’re conscious about paraben, this is definitely not for you. This palette contains paraben so use it at your own risk.

2
Screengrabbed from my video to show you the ingredients. It’s a bit blurry, but it’s readable.

There’s nothing wrong with the packaging, it looks nice and simple. It’s also easier to tell which palette is which, since you can see through the cover. I only wished that, instead of a transparent lid, there should’ve been a mirror as large as the palette.

looks
My Day to Night makeup look using the palettes

I love the color selection for both palettes. They both consist of light to dark shades. There are neutrals in them, which are perfect for the crease and the outer V. I super love the green one on the Night palette. I think it’s really close to the one in Kathleen Light’s palette, except that the latter is shimmery.

For me, it’s a palette worth-buying if you are a “beauty on a budget” or simply a beginner. But if you’re into high-end makeup, this is definitely not for you.

Detail Make Over, by the way, is going to release new palettes and I am SOOOO excited! I saw their IG Story and I thought these were something to watch out for.

Wink and Pout Cosmetics “Work & Play” Beauty Box

Hey there, Playmates! How’s it going? I’ve had a couple of bad weeks, but no worries! I’m holding up.

Anyway, this isn’t about me, it’s about this really affordable beauty box that I discovered on Instagram mid-June. It’s called the Kikay Beauty Box by Wink and Pout Cosmetics on FB or @wapcosmetics on IG.

3

They curate three boxes with different themes. Each box only costs P399. If the items were sold separately, they would cost about P500.

There are also options for buyers if they want to get either of the two cute tin boxes with an additional payment of P50, or just the regular box. I got the black tin one and I’m still thinking of what to use it for. It’s a nice storage for stationery, makeup, etc.

Let me show you the three Kikay boxes:

Lip Care and Bare

This box consists of four lip products:

  • 1 Pil’aten Lip Mask that replenishes, moisturizes, and nourishes the lips (P40)
  • 1 Lip Fuel Lip Scrub that evens out lip texture and removes lip discoloration (P80)
  • 1 Isabelle Dupont Lip Balm that moisturizes and protects lips from cracking or drying (P120)
  • 1 Isabelle Dupont Lipstick which is a HALAL certified product (P250)

Total Cost: P490

2

Blushing Belle

This box consists of six (6) products that can give you a “pinkish glow on your face and lips”.

  • 1 AT Organics Lip and Cheek Tint (P110)
  • 1 Daiso Eyebrow Pencil (with refill)
  • 1 Daiso BB Face Cream
  • 1 Pil’aten Pore Strip
  • 2 Compressed Face Masks
  • 2 Beauty Sponges

Unfortunately, I don’t know how much the other products are and they’re not stated on their posts as well.

1

Finally, the box that I purchased from them…

Work and Play

This box consists of six (6) products as well, which are perfect for those who “work and have fun”.

  • 1 Isabelle Dupont Lipstick
  • 1 Pil’aten Lip Mask
  • 1 Daiso Eyebrow Pencil (with refill)
  • 1 set of 3 Eyebrow Stencils
  • 2 Beauty Sponges
  • 3 DIY Compressed Facial Masks

12

Now, let me give you my two cents on this box.

10.jpg

Let’s start with the lipstick.

WAP Cosmetics have 7 shades of the Isabelle Dupont lipsticks namely: Lady Boss, Shameless, That’s Vouge, Sultry, Sweet Pea, Winterblush, and Burnished Vamp.

4

I initially thought it was a Philippine brand, but upon research, I learned that it wasn’t. Isabelle Dupont is a brand of GIZ Cosmetics, which is based in Turkey.

When I placed my order, they let me choose the shade and I chose Winterblush. It’s a pretty YLBB (Your Lips But Better) shade, which is pinkish nude and little mauvey.

8

I like how smooth and creamy it feels as it glides onto my lips. It feels moisturizing and lightweight. My only trouble with it is that it clings onto the dry areas of my lips, so it tends to look patchy up close. It’s just like my Makeup World Pucker Up Lipstick in the shade Berlin. So lip scrubbing and moisturizing are highly recommended when using this lippie.

5

Another plus for me is that I don’t feel anything strange in my mouth and throat whenever I wear it.

Final thoughts:

Let’s now move on to the Daiso Eyebrow Pencil. I had never tried any Daiso makeup so I was quite excited to try it. I like the fact that the shade they gave me is brown, because it is the color I usually wear on my brows.

7

The packaging kinda feels flimsy, but after twisting the nib several times, it seems to hold up well. So yeah, to get the product, simply twist the nib that looks like the one on any ball point pens. The product itself is about as long as an average thumb, and you get two spares so it can go a long away.

This pencil creates fine strokes so you can draw fake brow hairs for a more natural look. It doesn’t go off easily and does not smudge. I’m impressed! It also comes with a spoolie, so an  for convenience!

Final thoughts:

17355119_10212804238689119_1966902406_n

With this eyebrow pencil, I also tried using the brow stencil. It was my first time, but surprisingly, it was not an epic failure! The set comes in three different shapes, numbered 1, 2, and 3. One is arched, the other one is straight, while the other one is rounded. I used No. 1, the arched one.

9

The angle is not too high, so I didn’t end up looking like a villain. It’s really easy to use; perfect for beginners!

I personally think that you can use it as a pattern when shaving or plucking your brows. Simply put the stencil in place, trace the shape with a brow pencil, and then remove whatever that’s outside the line.

With a stencil, I think it can make doing our brows a lot quicker and easier. The only thing to watch out for, is the angle. Make sure your brows are parallel to each other.

Final thoughts:

17350992_10212804241089179_333130645_n

As for the beauty sponge, I got two of them – a pink and a purple. I used the purple one and I think it feels like my Swan Pro Egg Blender, only smaller. It does not expand and it’s too firm. You can squish it, but it isn’t bouncy. It DOES blend the foundation and the concealer pretty well, though, but nothing particularly special about it.

I also used it for baking with my loose powder, and it wasn’t bad at all.

Watch it in action in my Bold & Edgy Red Makeup Look video:

Final thoughts:

17274507_10212804238609117_980124131_n

By the way, I received a free Blackhead Pore Strip as a freebie and I’d like to create a separate blog post for that, as well as for my Pil’aten Lip Mask and DIY Compressed Face Masks.

Overall, this box isn’t bad at all, since it is really affordable. It’s recommended for students or anyone who doesn’t wanna splurge.

In addition, I give their service two thumbs up! I placed my order morning of June 15th. They sent me an invoice in the evening of the same day. I settled my payment the next morning, June 16th, then they shipped out my parcel that afternoon. My parcel arrived on the 17th!

The box was completely and carefully covered in bubble wrap and the items in the box were also wrapped separately. I love the fact that they had handwritten thoughtful notes and helpful instructions. See how much love they put into their boxes!

Oh, and also, you can Mix & Match and make the box more personalized! Check out WAP Cosmetics on Instagram or on Facebook.

So what do you think of this box? Which item/s do you think is/are the most interesting?

Hope you leave a comment!

See you in my next post!

RIXREVIEWS: K-Beauty – KARADIUM

If you have been following me on Instagram or on YouTube, you would know that I was one of the lucky BFF’s who won amazing Korean beauty products from YEF Philippines.

YEF ALL

Most of the makeup products that we received are from the brand called Karadium. Karadium has been in the market since 2010 offering unique products that become international bestsellers. Their products are also paraben-free!

Thanks to YEF, I’ve been able to use these amazing products! Now, let’s get on with the review! 😉

Collagen Moisture 2-Way Cake Foundation in #23

two cake
Photo grabbed from their website

*Price:

  • Karadium website: ₩26,000 (around P1,147)
  • YEF PH website: P480 (reg. price: P1,083)
(*May vary depending on KRW to PHP conversion.)

Just like any other two-way cake foundation, this can be used wet or dry. It has a round mirror that’s the same size as the compact itself. Like a Korean BB cushion, it has separate a pan for the puff.

It gives off a better coverage and a smooth-looking skin when used wet. If you’re going for a longer-lasting coverage, this is the way to go. Simply wet the puff or any sponge of your choice, then squeeze out the water before applying it onto the skin.

For dry application, this foundation is good for setting your liquid or cream foundation. I think the finish is too powdery so using a mist afterwards will be a good idea. It can also be used as it is for a light coverage.

Since most Korean foundations or BB creams are light, No. 23, which is the darkest, is still quite light for me. I always have to use a bronzing powder or a darker powder to neutralize the color.

As for the scent, it is really subtle, so it’s okay for those who are quite sensitive with odors.

I like how this looks on my skin once it sets. It also does not make my face too oily after hours. It kinda gives my skin a healthy dewy look. I also love the fact that it has SPF 25 PA++, protecting my skin from the sun. It also has anti-sebum properties that help absorb excess oil.

Cream Cheek Stick in No. 5 Shading

cream cheek
Photo grabbed from their website

*Price:

  • Karadium website: ₩25,000 (around P1,101)
  • YEF PH website: P520 (reg. price: P1,042)
(*May vary depending on KRW to PHP conversion; may be lower during PROMOS/SALE)

This product has five shades:

  • #1 Indie Pink (blush)
  • #2 Warm Coral (blush)
  • #3 Soft Peach (blush)
  • #4 Highlighter
  • #5 Shading

The shade that I’ve got is for contouring.  But since I, like most Filipinos, have tanned skin, this will not give enough definition on the face. It will only give a really subtle effect, which isn’t bad if you’re going for a natural look.

I really love the packaging and the fact that it comes with a flat top brush, which is placed on the other end of the product. Super convenient! The product itself is soft and creamy that it glides smoothly and blends nicely.

Final thoughts:

Flat Eyebrow Pencil in No. 4 Gray Brown

flat eyebrow
Photo grabbed from their website

*Price:

  • Karadium website: ₩8,000 (around P352)
  • YEF PH website: P220 (reg. price: P333)
(*May vary depending on KRW to PHP conversion; may be lower during PROMOS/SALE)

Initially, I didn’t think I’d like this shade because I normally used dark brown on my brows. It turned out that it was just fine, since my eyebrows are naturally black. It isn’t as dark as black, but it’s definitely good for filling in my brows.

It’s an angled pencil, which I think is perfect for natural brow makeup, so it doesn’t create harsh lines nor does it clump my brow hairs. It can be used alone or with other brow products such as gel, pomade, or powder.

It also comes with a spoolie, which is on the other end of the pencil. It makes doing my brows convenient, since I don’t need to bring a separate spoolie when I travel.

The only downside is the fact that it is a retractable pencil; once it breaks, it IS broken. I may put the broken pencil back into the tube, but it won’t securely stay put. If worse comes to worst, I lose that pencil… then, bye, bye!

Well, I guess I just have to be extra careful with it. 😉

Here are the other shades:

  • #1 Black Brown
  • #2 Dark Brown
  • #3 Real Brown
  • #4 Gray Brown
  • #5 Light Brown

Final thoughts:

Shining Pearl Eyeshadow Stick in No. 6 Chocolate Brown

shining
Photo grabbed from their website

*Price:

  • Karadium website: ₩15,000 (around P661)
  • YEF PH website: P360 (reg. price: P625)
(*May vary depending on KRW to PHP conversion; may be lower during PROMOS/SALE)

This is perfect for those who are always on-the-go! With its pen-type retractable eyeshadow that has a really smooth texture, you won’t need high makeup skills to apply it. You won’t also need to bring a separate brush or mess up your finger because it already comes with a sponge tip for blending.

As seen in the photo above, it comes in 10 shades, and mine is the 6th one from the left – Chocolate Brown. What I do is apply it on my entire lid, just beneath my crease. Then, I blend it out with the sponge blender. I want to intensify the crease area so I focus on it more. Then, blend it out again.

This shade can be used alone or with other makeup products. It’s also good for days when I want a natural look. It looks better with a nice eyeliner, too!

The other shades look really pretty, I might try and get some.

The names of the shades are:

  • # 1 Snow White
  • #2 Ice Pink
  • #3 Orange Marmalade
  • #4 Gold Night
  • #5 Honey Beige
  • #6 Chocolate Brown
  • #7 Daily Brown
  • #8 Caramel Gold
  • #9 Rose Gold
  • #10 Reddish Pink

Final thoughts:

On the Top Fiber Curling Mascara

fiber mascara
Photo grabbed from their website

*Price:

  • Karadium website: ₩16,000 (around P705)
  • YEF PH website: P667 (reg. price: P320)
(*May vary depending on KRW to PHP conversion; may be lower during PROMOS/SALE)

This mascara has two variants: curling and volume. Take a look at the photo above. Notice that the wands are different from each other. The one with the curled wand is for curling, (obviously); while the one on the right, the thicker one, is for volume.

I LOOOVE this mascara. The formula is so good that it does not clump my eyelashes. The curled wand is thin enough that it can reach the extremities. I usually find it hard to apply mascara on the lashes near the corner of my eyes, but this product has made it a lot easier. As well as with my lower lashes, the application requires little effort.

One thing that I don’t like about it is, it tends to smudge. I have very oily skin that’s why I prefer using waterproof mascaras and eyeliners. When my face oils up and the lashes touch the skin, it smudges and creates black patches on my under eye and the outer corners. If I had dry skin, I don’t think it would be a problem.

Final thoughts:

Oh My Lips in No. 1 Deep Red

oh my lips
Photo grabbed from their website

*Price:

  • Karadium website: ₩14,000 (around P617)
  • YEF PH website: P340 (reg. price: P583)
(*May vary depending on KRW to PHP conversion; may be lower during PROMOS/SALE)

The packaging of this lipstick is A-OK! Ingenious! Instead of the usual pull-up cap, it has a twist-up cap! Yes, you twist the cap to open, and just twist again to lock it. No more messy pouches or bags! No more dented or broken lippies!

The product itself is really pigmented. I can create a bold look by applying it evenly on my entire lips. To create a “naturally bitten lips” look, I concentrate on the inner center of my lower lip then smudge it with a brush or my finger to cover the rest of my lips. This creates a gradient look – dark in the center and light on the edges.

It’s so creamy it effortlessly slides on my lips and blends beautifully. It does not settle in the lines or crevices or in the dry areas. Like any other cream lipsticks, it is not transfer-proof or smudge-proof.

It has 6 shades:

  • #1 Deep Red
  • #2 Orange Red
  • #3 Tangerine
  • #4 Royal Pink
  • #5 Peachy Pink
  • #6 Pink Beige
  • #7 Pink Balm

Real Water Puff

real water puff
Photo grabbed from their website

*Price:

  • Karadium website: ₩10,000 (around P441)
  • YEF PH website: P270 (reg. price: P417)
(*May vary depending on KRW to PHP conversion; may be lower during PROMOS/SALE)

Another Karadium product that I loooove! This puff is so good that you won’t think it’s inexpensive. It’s in a bottle gourd shape, which I find more convenient than the teardrop shape. The inner curves make holding it easier and more secure. IMO!

This puff almost doubles in size when damp. It’s really soft it gently bounces on my face, blending my makeup well without hurting my skin.

The tip reaches the curves and crevices of my face, just like what we all expect from any other beauty sponges.

I haven’t tried a Beauty Blender yet, so I don’t really know the difference. But I can compare it with my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. To be honest, I find both of them effective and I think they work pretty much the same. The difference, apparently, are their shapes.

Final thoughts:

17351249_10212804241769196_787621821_n

They also have a cute collaboration with Pucca, which is a super cute collection! It’s the Karadium x Pucca.

pucca love edition

Pucca Shine Eyeshadow in No. 4 Antique Shine

pucca shine eyeshadow
Photo grabbed from their website

*Price:

  • Karadium website: ₩16,000 (around P705)
  • YEF PH website: P299 (reg. price: P690)
(*May vary depending on KRW to PHP conversion; may be lower during PROMOS/SALE)

First of all, it has a really cute packaging. With a transparent cover with Pucca printed on it, this compact single eyeshadow is truly an eye-catcher.

It comes in six pretty shades:

  • #1 Beige Shine
  • #2 Gold Shine
  • #3 Flower Shine
  • #4 Antique Shine
  • #5 Sunshine
  • #6 Smoky Shine

Notice that all shades are really close to skin tones; they are intended to make our eyes look pretty but still gravitate towards natural look. It’s really soft and does not dry our sensitive eyelids. It also lasts throughout the day without creasing.

I love how buttery it feels and does not have a lot of kickback when using a brush. It gives off a proper amount of pigmentation with both brush and finger.

This can be used as it is, but it can also be used along with other makeup products.

Pucca Pen Eyeliner in Black

pucca pen eyeliner
Photo grabbed from their website

*Price:

  • Karadium website: ₩14,000 (around P617)
  • YEF PH website: P290 (reg. price: P583)
(*May vary depending on KRW to PHP conversion; may be lower during PROMOS/SALE)

This, among everything I received, is my most favorite! The packaging is super cute! It looks like a pen. The container is thicker than the usual eyeliners, so I find it easier to control because it just feels like any other regular pens.

It has a really soft tip making the application super easy. It’s like an art brush pen; I can create thick or thin lines effortlessly. It is an ink-tank type so the product is dispensed evenly, preventing the eyeline from cutting-off. The formulation is stunning, but make sure you shake it well to get the full pigmentation.

This eyeliner holds up pretty well since it’s waterproof, but it can’t withstand the oiliness of my face during hot and humid weather. The good thing about it, though, is that re-application is not a problem. I just re-apply when the color fades off and it looks perfect again.

Taking Facial Care More Seriously

Taking care of my skin wasn’t my top priority back then. I thought constant washing and cleansing was enough. I didn’t use to think that facial care would even be a necessity.

As years went by, my hormones started changing (and raging) causing breakouts and acnes. I have tried light chemical exfoliation and basic facial treatment in Flawless ONLY ONCE (which by the way, really, really, cleared my skin BUT has left ugly scars. T_T )

I used several toners and no-peel exfoliants… irregularly. I am so inconsistent in almost everything. One week, I religiously kept my regimen, the next week, I didn’t.

Hence, my unpleasant textured skin. I initially thought I had combination skin, but later realized that the dry patches were just dead skin cells that needed exfoliating; which revealed my true skin type – oily. SUPER oily.

Years back, I heard that moisturizers are a major no-no for oily skin types. I later learned that moisturizers are just as important for oily skin as it is for dry skin. Removing a lot of oil from our skin actually makes it produce more oil. If our skin is properly moisturized, at least it will think that there’s enough oil making it produce less than it usually does.

So basically, we have to wash/cleanse, exfoliate, tone/hydrate, and moisturize. Koreans have 6-step and even 10-step skin care routine, making almost every beauty enthusiast in the world really hooked.

This is just my personal routine, which, by the way, only started the other night. And this is the MEDYO lazy version:

skin care routine

  1. Remove makeup. I use two products when removing my makeup: Holika Holika Daily Garden Lip and Eye Remover in Olive for my eyes and lips; and micellar water for my entire face. I am currently using Maybelline.  I use makeup remover for my eye makeup, because most of the products I use are waterproof, so micellar water isn’t enough. Skip this step if you don’t have makeup, of course.
  2. Cleanse. After removing my makeup, I wash my face with Faith Hope Love Coffee Soap. It has real coffee bits that help remove dead skin cells and thoroughly cleanse my face. It also smells super good! Hello, coffee lover! I love using it in the morning and in the evening. I’ve cut it into four smaller blocks and I’m now on my 3rd block.
  3.  Exfoliate. To completely make my skin clearer and softer, I use Skin Food Black Sugar Mask twice a week. Immediately after washing, I take a reasonable amount of product and massage it all over my face. Application isn’t a problem as the product glides on the skin easily. It may just be quite abrasive because of the real sugar bits, so I make sure I do it really gently. It smells super good – sugary and citrusy. I concentrate on my cheeks (my problem area), chin, nose, as well as my jaws. I leave it on my face for 10-15 minutes. After that, I wash it off with water, preferably lukewarm water.A good alternative for this is the iWhite Korea 2-Minute Whitening Miracle Wash Off Mask. I swear it’s super good and affordable, too!
  4.  Tone. I’m currently using Nivea Mattifying Toner.  I got mine on a 50% OFF Sale at Watson’s and I regret not getting two!

    Nivea Mattifying Toner
Enriched with Ocean Algae & Hydra IQ
    – tones the skin deeply and removes residues
    – reduces excess sebum and oil with its mattifying formula
    – maintains skin’s natural moisture balance.

Anyway, I just apply an appropriate amount of product onto a cotton pad and gently apply it on my skin. You can also apply it with your hands. Put a few drops of the toner on the palm of your hand, rub your palms together, and gently pat it all over your face.

  5.  Apply Essential Oil/Ampoule. Actually, whichever you prefer using or have in your kit. As for me, I use AND LOVE Terra Merita Natural Oil Cocktail and Watering Cocktail. I only have the sample sizes and I hope I knew where to get the (LEGIT) full-sized bottles.
To be honest, using this alone after washing my face is already enough. It has made my skin SUPER smooth, properly moisturized, and feeling really healthy! I just gently spread the oil all over the face, and with my warm fingers, I massage it for a few minutes. Then put a few drops of the watering cocktail on my palm and pat it all over my face.
  6.  Apply Sheet Mask. I wasn’t a huge fan of sheet masks; but I have honestly started to enjoy them now. Take any mask of your choice, tear it open, squeeze the liquid-based formula first before you take out the mask, and apply it all over your face. You may also wanna pop it in the refrigerator first to make it more refreshing!Anyway, once you’ve taken all the serum, carefully unfold the mask and place it on your face. Gently pat and leave it on for 15-20 minutes. It actually depends on the brand or kind of sheet mask you’re using, so make sure you check the label first. Do not rinse, use all the serum and let your skin absorb it. You can also apply the rest of the product on your hands, elbows, knees, ankles, feet, or any part of your body that you think is drought-stricken (LOL!)
    mask day 1
Day 1. Dewy Tree Aqua Panda Mask

This is the Dewy Tree Aqua Panda Mask I received from YEF Philippines. I can’t really lay a finger on how it smells, but it reminds me of dried mangoes. Hehe! I find the concept really cool. Unlike the other plain-looking masks, this one has a face of a panda printed on it. It even has a bamboo shoot in the mouth! Cute!

    mask day 2
Day 2. Jein 8 Sasaspa Facial Essence Mask

This is the Jein 8 Sasaspa Facial Essence Mask, which is also included in the YEF Philippines package. It smells and feels super refreshing. According to the instructions on the back of the packet, it should stay on for 20-30 minutes, much longer than the Panda Mask.

  7. Moisturize. This is the final step. Once the liquid from the sheet mask has dried, my skin already feels a little tacky. I take a pea-size amount of my A-Skin Moisturizing Gel and gently massage it all over my skin. It’s clear gel and a little goes a long way. It has a really subtle scent – nothing irritating.

And that’s it! And what do I get when I wake up in the morning? A very happy skin that feels super healthy, supple, soft, and smooth! That’s just after Days 1 and 2! How much more if I do it regularly?

You do not need to follow every single step every day, since exfoliation is only done twice a week. It takes 46 to 60 minutes over all, including the “waiting time” in between application. You can do it while watching TV or Korean dramas (watch VOICE if you haven’t yet), or even while reading a book, or browsing the internet. You can also do NOTHING while you wait! You know, give yourself some “ME” time, free your mind of all the toxic work or PEOPLE!

*wink* *wink*

If you love makeup, make sure you also pay a lot more attention on your skin. If you want a better finish and make your makeup look good and last longer, you need a smooth and healthy canvas. And of course, after using all that makeup, make sure you free your skin – your PORES! If not, you’ll end up blaming your makeup for giving you breakouts when the real reason is you!

I do not have the most beautiful skin, it really isn’t even pretty. But trust me, I’ve had WORSE! It’s never too late to take care of our skin. Pamper it. Love it. Make it your best friend! 😉

RIXREVIEWS: MAKEUP WORLD PH

One of my YouTube friends requested for a one-brand makeup video (shoutout to Ajhay Urbi! Subscribe to her channel!) and I started thinking of which brand to use. I have done it before with Avon products, unfortunately, I can’t really consider it a one-brand look since I used a different foundation. I didn’t have any Avon foundy that time.

I also considered Ever Bilena, but I decided having something not many people had already used. I will still do it with Ever Bilena, though, just not for my first.

I almost ended up with San-San and Shawill, but I saw Makeup World in BeautyMNL. (Special shoutout to Mariel Orolfo whom I first learned about this product. Watch her video using the Ultimate Palette!)

So that’s when I got myself these products:

18
I got Cream Silk for FREE! Yay!

I got 6 products from Makeup World, a growing Pinoy brand with a very interesting concept in their palettes.

I was pleasantly surprised when I saw all the Makeup World products because of the packaging! You’ll never think that these are actually very affordable, which is a +++ for me!

Now, let’s break this down and start with the foundation.

Makeup World Cover Up Foundation in the shade Natural

14

“CLAIM TO FAME: A lightweight liquid foundation for a smooth, flawless look

FAST FACTS: Delivers full color coverage; buffs and blends into skin seamlessly; smoothens away fine lines, large pores, and rough areas; evens out a patchy skin tone; leaves a shine-free natural finish

PERFECT FOR: All-day skin polish”

To be honest, I love this product. I actually thought I’ll be needing to give this away, but I decided to keep it. I have been using this every day ever since I got it.

First thing I noticed is that it has a thick consistency, so you might wanna start with a little amount. It’s buildable anyway, you can add another layer without feeling sticky or heavy. It’s surprisingly lightweight and super blendable considering its consistency.

In my opinion, however, it does not have full coverage; but I can say it’s medium. It evens out my skin tone, but still does not completely cover up my pimple marks.

Aside from being lightweight, it has a demi-matte finish. There’s a little bit of dewiness, but it’s still more on the matte side. It also lasts all day and I don’t feel too sticky with it on my face even on a hot day.

It can be used alone, but to completely enjoy its effectiveness, better hydrate your face with a mist, moisturize, prime, and bake.

My only problem with it, is the shade. My bad, though. I picked the wrong one. I chose Natural, which turns out to be lighter than my skin tone, so I ended up mixing it with the Cover Up concealer which you will read about shortly.

Makeup World Cover Up Concealer in the shade Nude

5

CLAIM TO FAME: An all-around creamy concealer that hides spots, blemishes, and under-eye circles

FAST FACTS: Lightweight, highly-blendable formula covers up imperfections; helps smoothen patchy areas to create the perfect base; evens out skin tone; ideal for bare-faced weekends

PERFECT FOR: Color correction and barely-there beauty”

Mixing this with the foundation works wonders on me. It has toned down the light shade of the foundation, so it perfectly matches my skin tone. It has improved the coverage of the foundation without making it patchy or cakey. It also dries down to matte and is really lightweight, so I don’t feel like I have makeup on!

My face does not also go crazy with it. It doesn’t have any breakouts or irritations.

Its consistency is similar to that of the foundation and it blends amazingly, too.

By the way, there is a slight scent to it, which isn’t irritating.

Final thoughts:

17355119_10212804238689119_1966902406_n

Makeup World Cover Up Pressed Powder in the shade Natural

7

CLAIM TO FAME: A full-coverage powder pact for polished, perfect skin

FAST FACTS: Buildable formula covers and conceals blemishes and imperfections; smoothens away fine lines, large pores, and rough areas; evens out patchy skin; leaves a long-wearing matte finish

PERFECT FOR: Keeping excess sebum and oil under control”

Some powders are too powdery that my skin looks weird under them. But this powder does not give you a weird powdery finish, even if it’s matte. It has also helped even out my light foundation, and sets it and my concealer nicely.

12

It also lasts for hours and I think it keeps the oil at bay.

It also a mild scent, which is not overpowering nor annoying.

11

It comes with a puff that can pick up enough product and can apply the powder properly on the face.

Final thoughts:

Makeup World Eyeliner Pencil in Black

15

CLAIM TO FAME: An easy-to-use creamy pencil that smoothly applies intense color

FAST FACTS: Quickly draws thin to thick lines without tugging skin; highly pigmented formula delivers a bold, dramatic finish; available in gorgeous eye-enhancing neutrals

PERFECT FOR: Standout eye definition”

It’s about 7 inches long which is not bad for only P99. It’s long so it will surely go a long way. It does have a creamy texture so it glides on the skin smoothly. I use it on my brows, too, and I have to keep a light hand as it is so pigmented. I don’t want to make my brows look unnaturally drawn.

Since it is creamy, it easily blends in the skin with an angled brush. You can also have an instant smokey eyes look, by lining your eyes with this pencil and blending it out with a brush.

I guess the only issue I have with this eyeliner is that it is not smudge-proof even when it sets.

Final thoughts:

17274507_10212804238609117_980124131_n
I still use it on my brows. 🙂

Makeup World Transformation Palette in Natural/Glam

10

CLAIM TO FAME: A travel-friendly palette that lets you change or enhance your regular beauty look

FAST FACTS: Features 3 layers of makeup in gorgeous glam hues; contains 8 eyeshadows, 8 lipsticks, and 2 blushes; provides natural to smoky shades for added intensity; lets you change your look with a few additional strokes of color

PERFECT FOR: Work and play”

This is, indeed, perfect for on-the-go women (and makeup lovin’ men, too!). With all the makeup included in this palette, this will surely lessen the amount of items in your kikay kit!

8

All the eyeshadow shades are perfect for day to night look. The pigmentation is pretty good, for something that’s as affordable as this. The color pay-off is quite impressive as well. It’s not buttery, though. In fact it’s quite powdery and the shimmery shade is a bit chalky, which I don’t mind at all, since it works well.

I love the color selection, because there is a light shade which is perfect for the base and brow bone. There are neutral shades, which are perfect for transition color, and for the lids, too. There are darker shades perfect for creating shadows on the crease and the outer V. Some of the browns are also good for contouring; while the shimmery gold can pass as a highlighter.

Here are the swatches of the eyeshadows:

swatch2

Now let’s move on to the lippies.

6

All the shades in this palette are wearable, which is good, of course. We can choose a shade that suits our mood for the day. There are reds, pinks, and nudes. They are quite pigmented and they feel good on the lips. I’m not really a fan of the texture, though. It feels super creamy; when you touch it with your finger, it’s like touching a piece of chocolate that starts to melt.

But the good thing, though, is once it sets, it doesn’t feel as creamy. I think it can also last a few hours, because the swatches on my arm didn’t budge easily. My lips also feel moisturized.

swatch

Moving on to the next layer, which contains the powder blush.

There are two blush shades, one is a peachy pink and the other one is a shimmery light pink.

4

As you can see the pans are quite big, so you won’t run out of your blush that easily. They’re also very pigmented, so you need to use a light hand as you pick up some product and gently apply it on your cheeks. You wouldn’t wanna pack your brush with it, you might end up looking sick with a terrible allergy or sunburn.

Overall, this is a great palette for travelling, as well as for working. This is good for college students and for practical mommies who want to save some money.

Final thoughts:

Makeup World Pucker Up Lipstick in the shade Dublin

16

It’s creamy and quite pigmented even in one swipe. But, since it has a matte finish, it doesn’t look good on chapped dry lips. Make sure to moisturize and exfoliate. Use a lip scrub or your toothbrush to gently remove dead skin on your lips.

It’s also long-lasting; it leaves a neat stain after a few hours.

The lips feel moisturized, though, despite being matte. My only issue is the swatch in the picture. I chose this shade because of this:

op-DUBLIN_2
It looks like a mauvy pink, right? But the actual lipstick isn’t mauve at all. Nude pink, but it gravitates towards pink more.

Pinoy Products You Should Try Right Now!

Tired of using and wasting money on commercialized products? Well, then, just STOP!

You know what you need to do?

Stop looking for products at the supermarket, and go online! Because a handful of good stuff is now on Instagram and on BeautyMNL! They’re natural and LOCAL!

Let me share some of my great finds:

Skin Genie Pit Perfect Underarm Whitening Scrub

pit perfect

Where I bought it: BeautyMNL

Price: P200 / 100 g

Ingredients: Please see the image below

First of all, notice how witty the name of their product is: Pit Perfect. Get it?

It is, as the name suggests, a whitening scrub specifically made for the dark side of many of us. (tee hee!) I have never used other pit products, other than deos, because I never really believed  they actually worked. Since this is made with natural ingredients and it’s not, at all, expensive, I added it into my cart, proceeded to checkout, and away my money went!

pit perfect 4

pit perfect 5pit perfect 3

According to the instructions, I must use it twice a week. I  gently massaged the product on my armpits for 3 minutes. However, I was supposed to rinse it with warm water, but I didn’t because I was also going to take a shower that time and was already too lazy to do it. I started yesterday, and in all fairness, I noticed how smooth my pits were, after bathing! It felt unusually soft and fresh! I love it!

pit perfect 2

By the way, it has quite a strong scent to it, which probably comes from the ground oats. But it is neither overpowering nor annoying. This product is promising. I hope that after I finish my jar, I will finally see the light and share before and after photos. hehe!

Or maybe not.

Final thoughts:

If it DOES whiten my pits, I will truly, truly LOVE this.

The Beauty Bakery Clarifying Witch Hazel Facial Mist

witch hazel

Where I bought it: BeautyMNL

Price: P265 / 150 ml bottle

Ingredients: Water, Witch Hazel Extract, Tea Tree Extract, Lemon Extract

This is another first of mine – first facial mist I bought. At first I couldn’t smell the lemon scent in it, instead I was reminded of Stay Fresh candies. Remember those small round green peppermint candies?

The product is packaged in a frosted glass bottle, which is the only downside. Carrying it around is NOT impossible, but a little inconvenient. Since it’s heavy and made of glass, it needs to be handled with care.

The spritz is pretty decent. It gives off tiny droplets, so I don’t worry about ruining my makeup. However, I feel like it does not dispose of enough product so I need to keep pressing until I feel my face is freshened up enough.

Ever since I used it, it has become a part of my daily regimen – after washing my face and after bathing. It has become a necessity. After spraying a generous amount of the mist on my face, I immediately apply my moisturizer. I learned that doing so, lets the water get absorbed more by the skin. Otherwise, some of it will just evaporate and not get into the skin.

It was also the facial mist that I used in my JAMSU video.

It’s effective by the way. 😉

For a job well done!

Hello, Gorgeous! by Skinline Rainbow Dash Highlighter and Eyeshadow Compact

rainbow dash

Where I bought it: Hello, Gorgeous!

Price: P350 (quantity/weight not indicated)

Ingredients: (not indicated but claims that all products are made with natural ingredients)

Introducing the first EVER rainbow highlighter from a Philippine brand! As far as I know, the first rainbow highlighter that came out was by BitterLaceBeauty on Etsy, who I believe is based in Florida, USA. Since then, more rainbow highlighters came out and one was the Color Icon™ from Wet n Wild, another foreign brand.

Finally a Pinoy company dared to create one; and boy it IS glow-rious! I love the fact that they made it a multi-tasking product. You can use each shade individually as eyeshadows, too. Despite its cute size, which is about as big as the Macaron lip balm from Careline, it comes with a mirror, which is super convenient you don’t need to fumble in your kikay kit for one.

rainbow dash 2
Ugh! I knooowwww!

You can sweep your highlighter brush onto the product to get that rainbow glow, you can also just swirl it onto the highlighter to get a sheer prismatic effect.

Check them out on Instagram or their website for more awesome products!

Oh, and don’t they look perfect with these really cute (yet affordable!) Unicorn brushes from Lip Monstr?

Faith. Hope. Love. Cucumber Hydrating Mist

faithhopelove coffee mist

Where I bought it: @faith.hope.lovesoapmain on Instagram

Price: P160 / 50ml

Ingredients: Please refer to the photo above.

This was highly recommended by fellow makeup enthusiasts @geekyella and @karenlizescobar (check them out on IG! Karen is a YouTuber, too, btw! Subscribe to her channel!). Anyways, they said they love this mist ’cause it smells good and really helps their makeup last longer.

So, when my Witch Hazel Facial Mist was almost empty, I placed an order through Faith. Hope. Love’s Instagram and Ms. Van, one of the people behind the company, was so gracious and friendly; she was super easy to transact with. You could feel so much positive vibe even in her messages!

So when the package arrived,  I opened it right away, took pictures of the cucumber mist, tore off the protective seal, twisted the cap open, and smelled it… wait….. wait….

It was super sweet and heavenly and refreshing! Ugh! I looove it!

It’s packaged in a lovely purple plastic bottle, which makes it much more convenient to take anywhere! Even the label looks pretty!

However, since the spritz is different from Witch Hazel Facial Mist, I had to get accustomed to it at first. It disposes of more product, there is more pressure, and [juuuust a bit] bigger droplets. So I make sure that when I use it, it’s within an arm’s length. On a brighter note, just a few sprays is all I need.

I will definitely get the bigger one once I’ve emptied this bottle. Just like Ella and Karen, I highly recommend it! It helps the makeup last longer and I can’t wait to try it with the Jamsu technique!

Check out their IG to see more products and feedbacks from their customers. They have a website coming soon, so watch out for that. AND their products are now available at BeautyMNL, too!

Faith. Hope. Love. Coffee Soap

faithhopelove coffee soap

Where I bought it: (Actually, it was included in my order as a gift! OMG!)

Price: P150 / 100 g

Ingredients: Coffee Granules, Coffee Extract, Marine Collagen, Seaweed Extract, Vit F Forte™, Sunflower Seed Oil, Carrot Extract, Coco Betaine, Lemon Peel Oil, Preservative – Leucidal™

Now, to complete the story above…

When I received the package, I thought there was a mistake. It was supposed to be round, but why did it seem as if there was a box inside? I tore open the courier’s package, and saw the paper wrapper sealed with a sticker with a Bible verse.

I carefully removed the tape on both ends of the packaging and took a quick peek inside. I pulled it out and was truly, truly overwhelmed by the surprise. (Thanks, Ms. Van!)

Now, now, on the product…

As you can see, the printed box is SUPER CUTE! Since it’s a coffee soap, the box has a drawing of a coffee plant and coffee beans printed all over. On the front side, you’ll see the logo, the product name, and what it’s for; while at the back, you’ll see all the other details you need to know about the product and the company.

The flaps are on the side, which is a little unusual, since most boxes like this have the flaps on top and at the bottom. The soap itself is brown; you’ll see specks of black which are actually the ground coffee granules.

I cut it into four to make sure it lasts longer. It was not difficult to cut, because it’s quite creamy, though solid. I also placed it somewhere that does not collect water to avoid “melting”.

The coffee granules in the bar gently exfoliates my skin. I massaged my face with it for 1-2 minutes before rinsing. My face felt really clean. It also felt smoother and softer. I think it has helped my micro-exfoliant fluid to get into my skin better. The best thing about that is, I LOOOOVE COFFEE! And coffee is well-known for its detoxifying properties! It smells like coffee caramel-ish, so lathering my face with this soap is such a breeze and will never be a struggle!

I recommend this soap, so I think I’m ditching my cleansing gel for this!

COVERING UP MY TATTOO WITH MAKEUP

I was watching Jeffree Star and Lipstick Nick’s video on YouTube yesterday when I thought of trying it out myself. Lipstick Nick was covering up Jeffree’s tattoos to recreate one of the photos in his Beauty Killer Campaign.

However, I do not have a full coverage foundation, so I only used what I have. Because of this, I had to work on layers and the thicker it got, the harder it was to blend and to make it look natural. Not bad, though… 👅

Here’s what went down:

img_20161220_204315.jpg
So, this is what my tattoo looks like. I have a separate blog post about this. Please click the image if you want to read it.
To neutralize the colors of my tattoo, I used the pink shade in my Unbranded Concealer palette from Ebay.
To intensify the coverage, I used a red lipstick. This is Avon Tropical Paradise Ultra Color Lipstick in the shade Rich Ruby.
I used a flat brush to apply the color corrector and the lipstick.
I set the concealer and the lipstick (and later on the foundation), with my Nichido Final Powder in Creamy Glow. You may use any loose powder according to your preference.
This is what it looks like, with the pink color corrector and the red lipstick, and after setting with  loose powder.
Between my Revlon Nearly Naked and L’Oreal Stay Fresh Foundation, L’Oreal definitely has better coverage. But its medium coverage is not enough to cover the tattoo up, so I had to work on layers.
So, this is the first layer. Make sure to set the foundation with the powder before adding another layer.
And this is the final look. It might have been better if I had an HD foundation. It doesn’t look natural, but not bad, huh?

RIXFIRSTS: “JAMSU” Technique Using Spray Bottle | The Beauty Bakery Witch Hazel Facial Mist

Goss Method… Backstage foundation… And other beauty hacks found in different blogs and tutorials…

I have tried these, but none of them truly ever worked on me. The oiliness of my face is beyond normal. It can get oily even within an hour of the application of my makeup. You can imagine how frustrating it is to see your makeup caking up and getting patchy when your day isn’t over yet. I can’t even make beso-beso!

Recently, a weird technique has been popping up on Facebook, so I went to YouTube to check it out. So, there’s this foundation technique that’s been really popular nowadays and it is said to originate in Japan.

Many who have tried swore by its effectivity and that it has truly made their makeup last longer.

So I decided to dive into the trend!

This foundation technique is called “JAMSU”. “Jamsu” (잠수) is the Korean term for “diving” or “submerging“. A number of beauty enthusiasts all over the world have tried their hands on this technique, as well!

Basically, you have to submerge your fully-powdered face into cold water for 20-30 seconds and this will make your makeup set better and last longer.

However, I tried the other method, which is the more convenient one – the Spray Bottle Method! I used The Beauty Bakery Witch Hazel Facial Mist.

All you need to do, is to apply your makeup as you normal do. As for me, I moisturized, primed, and put on my foundation. You can also apply concealer and your cream contour and highlight (depending on your preference).

This is were the whole routine changes. Instead of baking only some parts of your face, you put on powder all over your face – Kabuki style. Meaning, it should be more than the amount you normally apply. Make sure that it is even. If you have fair skin, use baby powder; but if you’ve got tanned or darker skin tone, translucent powder will be a better choice.

After applying the powder, submerge your face in a bowl of cold water. If you’ve got normal to dry skin, you need to do it for 15-20 seconds; and 30 seconds for oily skin. The drier the skin, the shorter the time.

As for me, I used my facial mist. I sprayed it all over my face until my face was completely soaked and had started dripping. I dried it with a paper towel. Do NOT rub. Gently pat and let it dry.

You will notice how smooth your face is and the foundation looks flawless. You will also notice the excess powder sitting on top of your face. Gently dust it off with your brush.

Then finish your make up as normal.

Before leaving the house, lemme take a selfie! That’s around 1:30 in the afternoon.

I have tried several techniques but this one is the best I’ve tried! No exaggerations there. I have never been this satisfied!

After 3 hours! Normally, in 3 hours, my face wouldn’t look as fresh. It only looked like I’ve just applied it. It was a hot and humid day, mind you!
Blotted out at 5 PM, that’s almost 4 hours. Minimal transfer, guys! Trust me, normally my foundation is all over the place! Including my collar!😒

My oil factory in full production at 11 PM. So that’s about 10 hours after application.

Watch my video below and see how it went:

RIXFIRSTS: Silisponge from Kalm Cosmetics

Silisponge is a clear makeup sponge made of silicone. Hence, the name!

It claims to cut our use of foundation since it does not absorb the product, unlike other beauty sponges or makeup brushes. It is also said to be much easier to wash. In addition, it is believed to make the foundation look flawless.

Up close, it looks like this:

It actually looks like a huge jelly candy! It’s soft and smooth.

Yesterday I tried it out and, well, it isn’t gonna be a product that I will rave about. Sure, I used less foundation. Sure, the application was smooth. BUT, I felt like it didn’t blend my foundation well enough. I had to use my oval brush just to make sure my foundation blended properly.

It felt really soft on my skin, but it couldn’t reach some areas of my face. My face is textured, I have bumps and holes and pimple marks.

First, I pumped a small amount of foundation, (perhaps half a pump?) on my Silisponge. I put small dots all over my face using the unique sponge, then blended the product in circular motion. Then patted the Silisponge gently on my face.

But I felt like it was not enough, so I took my oval brush and blended more.

I know there are many others who love their Silisponge and they say they can use it without needing a brush or an egg blender. As for me, just for the sake of not wasting something I spent my money on, I’ll continue using it for the initial application of my foundation. Then, finish off with my favorite oval brush.

Here’s my final look from yesterday:

No filter. So you can see the bumps and holes on my face. 🙂

Should you buy this? It isn’t that pricey so I guess it’s worth a try. But I don’t think it could be a replacement for brushes or sponges.

Final thoughts:

I’m afraid I can’t be one of those raving about this product. Seems like it’s just too hyped up?

What do you think of the Silisponge? Comment below and let me know what you think!
