Unboxing: The LAST SC Beauty Box (Spendless Cosmetics) in the Philippines?!

Last year in December, I got my first SC Beauty Box during an event at the YouTube Lounge at Greenbelt. It was Say Tioco’s meet and greet. Prior to that, I had already subscribed to a 1-year plan. But in January, the SC PH team announced that they had to stop operations (for reasons I will not disclose). I was sad, of course, because it was the only affordable subscription box I found to be worth spending on. Some products in the box were not available in the Philippines.

Then this year in June, I saw that their FB page is still active, as well as their website. They had a promo, at that time, where they’d give a free BYS Nude palette when you subscribe to a plan. So I went over to their page and subscribed to their Savers Box, which was the cheapest one, priced at only about $10. I placed my order and checked out via PayPal; I used my GCash Mastercard to activate recurring payments.

According to them, I would receive the free eyeshadow palette on my third box AND that my June box would arrive in July. Come July, but not my box. Another payment was deducted, so that was when I started getting worried. But still, I graciously waited.

After 5 days, I received an e-mail from them informing me that the BYS Nude Palette had been out of stock, so they would be replacing it with City Color Nudes Palette.

I sent them e-mail and Facebook messages and inquired about my June box. I did not receive any reply from them for a while! I got so upset because I felt scammed.

Then after about a week, I got an e-mail from them telling me that due to problems with PH Customs (and I am fully aware of this problem), they had to permanently stop operating in our country. So all payments would be refunded. I had my July payment refunded, and they told me that a week after that, they’d be shipping out my June box.

Come August, and not a word from them. I checked their Facebook page and they had recent posts. I checked their website, but it was gone!

I got really worried so I sent them another message on Facebook, telling them I still had not got my June box when I only received a refund for July. They finally responded and asked me to send photos of the payments. So, I did. While I was waiting for them to read my message, a courier arrived and it was my effin’ box! FINALLY!

So I sent them a message again informing them about my receipt of the box and apologized for being cranky because I was starting to get really upset. They apologized, too, and told me I had all the right to be upset. All was well.

So now…… Haha! Time for the unboxing!

  • NYX Glitter Cream Palette – Ocean Breeze

I was really happy to get this, because I had been planning to get myself a glitter palette. Perfect timing! Since the palette is called ‘Ocean Breeze’, it consists of 5 glittery shades of blue and green. It’s smooth and easily applies on the eyelids. It can get chunky, though, so I should try to apply evenly. But since it has a gel consistency, it does not dry out and it’s not smudge-proof.

  • Cover Girl Smoky Shadow Blast

It is a dual-ended eyeshadow stick that can be used to create an easy smoky look. Step 1 is a lighter blue shade with a round end – perfect for adding color on the lids; while Step 2 is a darker blue shade with a narrow end – perfect for lining the crease. You can use a brush or your fingers to blend it out.

  •  Hard Candy Fox in a Box in Hot Flash

The packaging reminded me of my W7 Africa Bronzing Powder, but the lid of the Fox in a Box is not removeable. It has a flip cover with an elastic band under it, where you can slip the small brush through. The brush is soft, despite looking badly-beaten. :p The product has 4 different beautiful, pigmented colors which can be used individually or mixed together. It’s cruelty-free! Yay!

Broke during shipment
  • Wet n Wild Natural Wear Pressed Powder in Ivory

I really love the fact that it’s made of 100% natural ingredients and that it’s paraben-free. I also love the packaging – made with recycled paper. It also looks beautiful with its leaf embossing on the product. I swatched it and it feels silky smooth.

  • Color Whisper in Mad for Magenta

The packaging reminds me of the Maybelline Powder Matte Lipsticks, only this one is smaller. It does not have the usual lipstick shape. It feels super smooth on the lips and is very moisturizing. The color is a beautiful shade of pink, not an overwhelming one, which I love.

  • City Color Nudes Palette

It’s actually a freebie for subscribing! It’s got 12 beautiful neutral shades, which is a combination of matte and shimmer. The shimmery ones are pigmented, while the matte ones need building up. They feel smooth and has minimal kick backs. However, if you hate parabens, this palette is a no-go for you.

Over all, I am happy with the products that I got in my SC Beauty Box. For such a low price point, I got a total of 6 products for the eyes, cheek, lips, and face. My only issue was the powder – being lighter than my skin tone. Still, it’s a great box. Too bad there won’t be any SC Beauty Box in the Philippines anymore. #iCry

Wink and Pout Cosmetics “Work & Play” Beauty Box

Hey there, Playmates! How’s it going? I’ve had a couple of bad weeks, but no worries! I’m holding up.

Anyway, this isn’t about me, it’s about this really affordable beauty box that I discovered on Instagram mid-June. It’s called the Kikay Beauty Box by Wink and Pout Cosmetics on FB or @wapcosmetics on IG.

They curate three boxes with different themes. Each box only costs P399. If the items were sold separately, they would cost about P500.

There are also options for buyers if they want to get either of the two cute tin boxes with an additional payment of P50, or just the regular box. I got the black tin one and I’m still thinking of what to use it for. It’s a nice storage for stationery, makeup, etc.

Let me show you the three Kikay boxes:

Lip Care and Bare

This box consists of four lip products:

  • 1 Pil’aten Lip Mask that replenishes, moisturizes, and nourishes the lips (P40)
  • 1 Lip Fuel Lip Scrub that evens out lip texture and removes lip discoloration (P80)
  • 1 Isabelle Dupont Lip Balm that moisturizes and protects lips from cracking or drying (P120)
  • 1 Isabelle Dupont Lipstick which is a HALAL certified product (P250)

Total Cost: P490

Blushing Belle

This box consists of six (6) products that can give you a “pinkish glow on your face and lips”.

  • 1 AT Organics Lip and Cheek Tint (P110)
  • 1 Daiso Eyebrow Pencil (with refill)
  • 1 Daiso BB Face Cream
  • 1 Pil’aten Pore Strip
  • 2 Compressed Face Masks
  • 2 Beauty Sponges

Unfortunately, I don’t know how much the other products are and they’re not stated on their posts as well.

Finally, the box that I purchased from them…

Work and Play

This box consists of six (6) products as well, which are perfect for those who “work and have fun”.

  • 1 Isabelle Dupont Lipstick
  • 1 Pil’aten Lip Mask
  • 1 Daiso Eyebrow Pencil (with refill)
  • 1 set of 3 Eyebrow Stencils
  • 2 Beauty Sponges
  • 3 DIY Compressed Facial Masks

Now, let me give you my two cents on this box.

Let’s start with the lipstick.

WAP Cosmetics have 7 shades of the Isabelle Dupont lipsticks namely: Lady Boss, Shameless, That’s Vouge, Sultry, Sweet Pea, Winterblush, and Burnished Vamp.

I initially thought it was a Philippine brand, but upon research, I learned that it wasn’t. Isabelle Dupont is a brand of GIZ Cosmetics, which is based in Turkey.

When I placed my order, they let me choose the shade and I chose Winterblush. It’s a pretty YLBB (Your Lips But Better) shade, which is pinkish nude and little mauvey.

I like how smooth and creamy it feels as it glides onto my lips. It feels moisturizing and lightweight. My only trouble with it is that it clings onto the dry areas of my lips, so it tends to look patchy up close. It’s just like my Makeup World Pucker Up Lipstick in the shade Berlin. So lip scrubbing and moisturizing are highly recommended when using this lippie.

Another plus for me is that I don’t feel anything strange in my mouth and throat whenever I wear it.

Final thoughts:

Let’s now move on to the Daiso Eyebrow Pencil. I had never tried any Daiso makeup so I was quite excited to try it. I like the fact that the shade they gave me is brown, because it is the color I usually wear on my brows.

The packaging kinda feels flimsy, but after twisting the nib several times, it seems to hold up well. So yeah, to get the product, simply twist the nib that looks like the one on any ball point pens. The product itself is about as long as an average thumb, and you get two spares so it can go a long away.

This pencil creates fine strokes so you can draw fake brow hairs for a more natural look. It doesn’t go off easily and does not smudge. I’m impressed! It also comes with a spoolie, so an  for convenience!

Final thoughts:

With this eyebrow pencil, I also tried using the brow stencil. It was my first time, but surprisingly, it was not an epic failure! The set comes in three different shapes, numbered 1, 2, and 3. One is arched, the other one is straight, while the other one is rounded. I used No. 1, the arched one.

The angle is not too high, so I didn’t end up looking like a villain. It’s really easy to use; perfect for beginners!

I personally think that you can use it as a pattern when shaving or plucking your brows. Simply put the stencil in place, trace the shape with a brow pencil, and then remove whatever that’s outside the line.

With a stencil, I think it can make doing our brows a lot quicker and easier. The only thing to watch out for, is the angle. Make sure your brows are parallel to each other.

Final thoughts:

As for the beauty sponge, I got two of them – a pink and a purple. I used the purple one and I think it feels like my Swan Pro Egg Blender, only smaller. It does not expand and it’s too firm. You can squish it, but it isn’t bouncy. It DOES blend the foundation and the concealer pretty well, though, but nothing particularly special about it.

I also used it for baking with my loose powder, and it wasn’t bad at all.

Watch it in action in my Bold & Edgy Red Makeup Look video:

Final thoughts:

By the way, I received a free Blackhead Pore Strip as a freebie and I’d like to create a separate blog post for that, as well as for my Pil’aten Lip Mask and DIY Compressed Face Masks.

Overall, this box isn’t bad at all, since it is really affordable. It’s recommended for students or anyone who doesn’t wanna splurge.

In addition, I give their service two thumbs up! I placed my order morning of June 15th. They sent me an invoice in the evening of the same day. I settled my payment the next morning, June 16th, then they shipped out my parcel that afternoon. My parcel arrived on the 17th!

The box was completely and carefully covered in bubble wrap and the items in the box were also wrapped separately. I love the fact that they had handwritten thoughtful notes and helpful instructions. See how much love they put into their boxes!

Oh, and also, you can Mix & Match and make the box more personalized! Check out WAP Cosmetics on Instagram or on Facebook.

So what do you think of this box? Which item/s do you think is/are the most interesting?

Hope you leave a comment!

See you in my next post!

UNBOXING: Saladbox PH (3 for P1,000 Promo)

Back in October, I was curious about subscription boxes, so I started looking for one that’s got good products at an affordable price. My sister Mik found out that Saladbox had a promo, where you could get 3 boxes for P1,000. ‘Not bad,’ I thought. At least, I wouldn’t be splurging on something that could surprise me.

So I placed my order, settled my payment via PayPal, and followed their instructions which were posted upon checkout. I sent them e-mail to confirm my payment, as well as the required information. That was October 28th. I did not receive any reply for a couple of days.

When I realized they had not checked my message yet, I sent them another e-mail to let them know there was a pending order. That was November 8th. The next day, they replied to me and even asked me if I had sent the necessary details. I forwarded to them the e-mail I had sent earlier and they finally sent me a confirmation. That was November 9th!

They replied to me with this message:

“So sorry for late revert. Apparently I can’t see your previous email.” (Gerwin, Operations Executive)

On November 18th, I asked them when my order would be shipped. I received a reply that said:

“Hi, we will ship boxes on the last week of this month :”)
Just to clarify, may I know your full name, mobile number, and address?
Thanks!” (Gerwin, Operations Executive)

On that same day, I sent them a reply with the info they needed.

On November 24th, they sent me an e-mail with the subject: SALADBOX UPDATE: Holiday 2016. It was an “update and a little sneak peek on this season’s Saladbox”. There was a picture of the holiday box and a SAMPLE SNEAK PEEK LIPSTICK. “Everyone gets a FULL-SIZE lipstick!!”

In the e-mail, the schedule given was as follows:

November 26 – Sample Select of VIP subscribers (One-Year subscribers)
November 27 – Sample Select of regular subscribers
November 28 – Boxes dispatchment
November 29 – Start of deliveries
November 29 to December 2nd week – Delivery*

*Please note that delivery time may take longer than usual due to high nationwide package volume (holiday season), but rest assured that you will receive your box/es within this period, in time for the holidays. 🙂

On November 27, they sent me another e-mail with the subject: SAMPLE SELECT: Holiday 2016. In the e-mail, there was a picture of three Ever Bilena lipsticks in the shades Intense, Romantic Red, and Hollywood Red. I was asked to select the lipstick shade I prefer, and I picked Hollywood Red. However, contrary to their previous e-mail NOT everyone could get it.

On November 29th, I got another e-mail from them with the subject: IMPORTANT: Choose Between the Welcome Box or a Third Box Delivery. I chose the former.

Apparently, no box arrived in November, so I supposed I would get it in December. So I sent them another e-mail on December 13th, asking them to cancel my subscription insted.  Two days later, a certain Ria Angeles from Saladbox replied to me addressing the issue.

On IG, a certain @jaymarq, who turned out to be an admin of Saladbox Man, assisted me with my questions and complaints and  part of his message said:

“…on behalf of those handling the women’s box, sorry for the inconvenience (and frustration) this has caused you. I’ll tell them to add something on your next box.”

Okay, that sounds good but I seriously won’t expect for anything anymore.

AAAAAaanyway, enough of this frustrating back story. Let’s go ahead and see the contents of my Saladbox:

As you can see in the photo, I got three boxes which I suppose are: the Welcome box, the Holiday box, and a FREE Men’s box.

The Welcome Box, the one on the left, consisted of sample products which included:

  • Mary Kay Creme Lipstick in Red
  • Mary Kay Mineral Eye Colour in Sweet Plum and Honey Spice
  • Alien Aqua Chic Thierry Mugler Eau de Toilette
  • Aloe Derma Hair and Scalp Tonic
  • Twin sachets of a Tresemme Shampoo and a Condition
  • Mary Kay ‘The Look’ Catalog for Mar-Apr 2016
  • South Sartorial Elite Gift Card

Now, the Holiday Box had four full-sized products. They are the:

  • Tresemme Split Repair Serum
  • Black Water Women Flora Pearl Beauty Body Spray
  • Careline Macaron Lip Balm in Lemon
  • EB Advance Cheek Color in Peony
  • 1 Saladbox Man Discount Card valid until December 31, 2016

Finally, the free Men’s Box:

  • Ponds Men Energy Charge Whitening Foam
  • Master Oil Control Max Deep Cleanser
  • Dove Men Care Fortifying Shampoo
  • Close Up Deep Action Toothpaste
  • 1 Saladbox Man Discount Card valid until December 31, 2016

I am so sorry to say that after the last box arrives, I will never place an order at Saladbox – EVER. I can truly appreciate and find use with these products, but I was not pleased with the way they handle orders. They can’t keep up with their promises even.

If they’re not too ready with a huge volume of orders, they had better post a limit to how many slots they can accept. Most especially with a very affordable promo! Expect a huge number of orders coming!

In addition, I hope Saladbox gives an equal attention to all subscriptions, whether it’s a cheap promo or a VIP subscription. We are all consumers and those products were paid for. How could they earn more VIP subscriptions, if they couldn’t even handle these small and cheaper boxes?

So, yeah. I just hope that something good comes in my final box and I also hope that the January box will arrive this January.

My final verdict:
