This time last year, I finally took courage to embrace my love for makeup by creating a separate account dedicated only to beauty.
Not only that, I posted my first ever makeup video on YouTube.
For years, I had restricted myself from trying to look good. I was one of those mothers who DGAF about how they looked, as long as their kids were properly clothed. Not only that, I was in that crazy time in my life when grooming was considered flirting or prettying for another person. That was also the time I’d hardly buy anything for myself. I had no balls to even stand for myself. Not that I wanted one. Haha!
But then tables were turned and my pain led me to a blessing. I got to be ME again. Then again, who WAS I? Little by little, I took my baby steps to knowing myself deeply and to savoring my freedom to embrace my individuality.
Fast forward to 2010 or 2011, I discovered my first makeup heroine – MICHELLE PHAN. I can still remember the first video I clicked. It was her Lady Gaga’s Poker Face makeup tutorial. I was so amazed by the magic of makeup!
Few more months passed, and I began playing with makeup. I started with brands I could easily get. I even used the so-called ‘SG Authentic’ eyeshadows.
And the rest is history. 🙂
Fast forward to NOW. I’ve posted 590 photos on my beauty IG account, as of the moment, and a number of makeup videos on YouTube. I’ve done a few mini giveaways, too!
Hey there! Hope you’re all safe despite the terrible weather. Yesterday was such a shizzy day and I felt like I needed to pour it out. So, yeah, as the title says it, Nope, this is not my ordinary blog post.
Yesterday’s thoughts start beyond this point:
I don’t know where to start. I don’t even know if I should post this, but I truly want my blog to be as real and transparent as possible – at least to some extent. As much as possible, I’d love to spread positivity and happiness.
But sometimes, it’s also good to pour out some of the heavy shiz and make it less difficult to bear. So, please bear with me.
I am 32 and I’m just… Rika.
I’m not really gonna go into details, but today’s weather accurately reflects my feelings at the moment. (Hashtag: ATM)
My Dementors really never left. I think it’s because I can barely conjure my Patronus even if I had it tattooed on my arm. The Patronus charm requires a strong, happy memory.
And I just can’t get myself to muster a single happy one.
If only life could at least be so kind and spare me one good reason to keep me going, or to at least make me think there’s still hope. A reason that can make me save myself from my Dementors. Just like when Harry conjured a full-fledged Patronus at the lake to save himself and Sirius (HPATPOA).
Back to today, I had an equally shizzy day, which turned out even worse. Again, I won’t go TMI(Too Much Information), but let’s just say, when life gives you shit, it pours.
I felt like I was just going into the drain…
Then, I received two e-mails related to my YouTube channel. One required a lot of weighing and thinking; while the other one was a big
Quite a number of good things started rolling, and I hope there’s more. I DO thank the Almighty Being for surprising me with something I wanted – something good to make me go on. God bless the universe for finally conspiring to give me a bit of inspiration. It’s like a gentle nudge or perhaps a pat in the back.
Last year in December, I got my first SC Beauty Box during an event at the YouTube Lounge at Greenbelt. It was Say Tioco’s meet and greet. Prior to that, I had already subscribed to a 1-year plan. But in January, the SC PH team announced that they had to stop operations (for reasons I will not disclose). I was sad, of course, because it was the only affordable subscription box I found to be worth spending on. Some products in the box were not available in the Philippines.
Then this year in June, I saw that their FB page is still active, as well as their website. They had a promo, at that time, where they’d give a free BYS Nude palette when you subscribe to a plan. So I went over to their page and subscribed to their Savers Box, which was the cheapest one, priced at only about $10. I placed my order and checked out via PayPal; I used my GCash Mastercard to activate recurring payments.
According to them, I would receive the free eyeshadow palette on my third box AND that my June box would arrive in July. Come July, but not my box. Another payment was deducted, so that was when I started getting worried. But still, I graciously waited.
After 5 days, I received an e-mail from them informing me that the BYS Nude Palette had been out of stock, so they would be replacing it with City Color Nudes Palette.
I sent them e-mail and Facebook messages and inquired about my June box. I did not receive any reply from them for a while! I got so upset because I felt scammed.
Then after about a week, I got an e-mail from them telling me that due to problems with PH Customs (and I am fully aware of this problem), they had to permanently stop operating in our country. So all payments would be refunded. I had my July payment refunded, and they told me that a week after that, they’d be shipping out my June box.
Come August, and not a word from them. I checked their Facebook page and they had recent posts. I checked their website, but it was gone!
I got really worried so I sent them another message on Facebook, telling them I still had not got my June box when I only received a refund for July. They finally responded and asked me to send photos of the payments. So, I did. While I was waiting for them to read my message, a courier arrived and it was my effin’ box! FINALLY!
So I sent them a message again informing them about my receipt of the box and apologized for being cranky because I was starting to get really upset. They apologized, too, and told me I had all the right to be upset. All was well.
So now…… Haha! Time for the unboxing!
NYX Glitter Cream Palette – Ocean Breeze
I was really happy to get this, because I had been planning to get myself a glitter palette. Perfect timing! Since the palette is called ‘Ocean Breeze’, it consists of 5 glittery shades of blue and green. It’s smooth and easily applies on the eyelids. It can get chunky, though, so I should try to apply evenly. But since it has a gel consistency, it does not dry out and it’s not smudge-proof.
Cover Girl Smoky Shadow Blast
It is a dual-ended eyeshadow stick that can be used to create an easy smoky look. Step 1 is a lighter blue shade with a round end – perfect for adding color on the lids; while Step 2 is a darker blue shade with a narrow end – perfect for lining the crease. You can use a brush or your fingers to blend it out.
Hard Candy Fox in a Box in Hot Flash
The packaging reminded me of my W7 Africa Bronzing Powder, but the lid of the Fox in a Box is not removeable. It has a flip cover with an elastic band under it, where you can slip the small brush through. The brush is soft, despite looking badly-beaten. :p The product has 4 different beautiful, pigmented colors which can be used individually or mixed together. It’s cruelty-free! Yay!
Wet n Wild Natural Wear Pressed Powder in Ivory
I really love the fact that it’s made of 100% natural ingredients and that it’s paraben-free. I also love the packaging – made with recycled paper. It also looks beautiful with its leaf embossing on the product. I swatched it and it feels silky smooth.
Color Whisper in Mad for Magenta
The packaging reminds me of the Maybelline Powder Matte Lipsticks, only this one is smaller. It does not have the usual lipstick shape. It feels super smooth on the lips and is very moisturizing. The color is a beautiful shade of pink, not an overwhelming one, which I love.
City Color Nudes Palette
It’s actually a freebie for subscribing! It’s got 12 beautiful neutral shades, which is a combination of matte and shimmer. The shimmery ones are pigmented, while the matte ones need building up. They feel smooth and has minimal kick backs. However, if you hate parabens, this palette is a no-go for you.
Over all, I am happy with the products that I got in my SC Beauty Box. For such a low price point, I got a total of 6 products for the eyes, cheek, lips, and face. My only issue was the powder – being lighter than my skin tone. Still, it’s a great box. Too bad there won’t be any SC Beauty Box in the Philippines anymore. #iCry
Last week, Guil and I decided to try the newest item from KFC for lunch. It’s the KFC Sisig Burrito! We both love burritos and sisig, so these two things combined is an UGH-mazing idea!
So, what’s inside this burrito?
Just like any burrito, it has rice, meat, sauce, and tortilla (There are no veggies, tho). To make it taste like sisig, they used sisig sauce; and because it’s KFC, they used Hot Shots and chicken skin.
Here’s how it looks. Notice that the wrapper they used was the one for KFC Twister.
You simply have to tear off the middle strip then carefully remove one side of the wrapper to reveal half of the burrito.
Lezzzz dig in!
The chicken skin was indeed crispy, but it really wouldn’t be a sisig without the sauce. As you may know, a “legit” sisig is cooked in pig’s brain and a good substitute for it will be mayonnaise. With a perfect mix of all the seasoning and spices, comes a perfect sisig.
It’s a pretty bold move for KFC, I would say. I suppose it had been quite a challenge for them to come up with a sisig recipe that would highlight their main specialty – chicken. Since they used Hot Shots and crispy chicken skin, it wouldn’t have tasted like sisig if without the sauce. So kudos to whoever made the recipe, it was pretty spot on. (Although spot on would still be a BIG word.) It’s quite spicy, though!
Guil felt like we could do with some gravy, so…
Here’s a closer look of my sisig burrito…
And there goes my Sleek Matte Me in Velvet Slipper.
The KFC Sisig Burrito costs P95, ala carte, but if you add P45, you’ll have regular Coke and fries. Since it’s KFC, I think the price is pretty reasonable. Though you can get a bigger meal with that price. Especially if you’re with a friend, you can get the KFC Duo Meal, which includes two cups of rice, 2 pcs. chicken, a box of Hot Shots, mashed potato, and 4 pcs. Pillow Puffs, all for a little more than P300.
Guil thinks that it’s not big enough for P95. A bit pricey for a small meal. If you’re really hungry and you have a hundred and fifty pesos, you wouldn’t wanna get this, especially if you have a huge appetite. But, if you’re just curious and would love to know what a chicken sisig burrito tastes like, it’s pretty worth trying.
All I’m saying is, the taste isn’t bad. It’s not the most filling food, and definitely not cheap.
Hi! I know it’s been pretty quiet on my blog lately. (Sorry about that!) My sleeping habits have changed yet again, and my work’s been up to my eyeballs.
The other day, I saw a very interesting book in a friend’s IG story and I thanked her for sharing it. The author seemed to have been inspired by The-Boy-Who-Lived and it caught my eye. The book is shattering, though, but it is truly an eye-opener.
Anyways, the same friend nominated me as one of her five Awesome Blogger awardees. (Thank you!!!) Her name’s Rosemarie, also known as @theimportedwife. Her blog is awesome, totally worth reading.
So, here are the rules. They’re really simple:
⚡ Thank the person who nominated you.
⚡ Tag it under #awesomebloggeraward in the Reader.
⚡ Answer the questions your nominator gave you.
⚡ Nominate at least 5 awesome bloggers.
⚡ Give your nominees 10 new questions to answer.
⚡ Let your nominees know that they’ve been nominated.
Now, let’s get to her questions.
1. If your life is going to be a movie or a book what would be its title?
Hmmmh.. Tough one! After several minutes of thinking, I came up with “Too Young to be Old, Too Old to be Young”.heehee
I’ve made “adult” decisions at quite a young age and because of this, I had to experience adulting early. It may not seem like it, but I think maturely. Because of this, I only got to really enjoy myself later in life. Now I feel like I’m too old to do stuff I should’ve experienced in my salad days. I’m still trying to keep up, y’know? I hope it really IS never too late.
2. Do you share your blogs with your friends or just the blogging community?
During my first months of blogging, I just kept my blog to myself. Then some people online stumbled across my [first] blog and found myself in a blogging community. Later on, I started sharing my blog posts on my Facebook. A few of my friends read them, but it wasn’t (and isn’t) really a big deal. The fact that there are people who read my blog already makes me happy. (But of course, I’d love to see my stats going up! 😀 )
3. What’s the story behind your blog name?
RikaNobela because this is MY story. 🙂 Whatever I post, whether it’s a product review, something I experienced, a place I went to, food I cooked or ate, and whatnot, they’re all from MY life. So I’m basically sharing some parts of my life and fragments of my thoughts. Rika, which is my nickname (my full name’s Rikatrina) and I think our life is more like a written narrative, right? So yeah, Nobela(novel).
4. If you could go back or start over college, would you change your major? What is it going to be?
Perhaps not. I DO love to teach and I love English. But perhaps I would, too. I’d love to learn more about Psychology and Creative Writing.
5. What is your most annoying habit that you want to get rid of?
PROCRASTINATING! So much stuff to do, but I end up telling myself ‘mamaya na!’ I want to be consistent and to be more punctual. Like now, I still have so much in my hands, but they’re still sitting on my desk.
6. If you could move and live to a different country or city, where it would be?
Inasmuch as I’d love to live in the Philippines, I would also wanna see and experience what living in Australia is like. We have friends and relatives residing there, and I think there are amazing places and better job opportunities.
7. What is your biggest pet peeve?
Lying. Whether or not it’s the so-called “White Lie”. I don’t care if it’s going to hurt, but I’d rather be told the awful truth than a yummy chocolate-coated lie.
Pretentious. I hate posers! People who claim to be a fan of someone or something, but as they keep talking, you’ll see how little they really know.
Know-it-alls who don’t really have any idea what they’re talking about. Ugh!
BRAGGARTS. Braggart braggarts and humble braggarts. Basta braggarts! You’ll know naman who’s just sharing and who’s bragging, eh.
For example, I have this high school schoolmate, who wasn’t really one of the popular kids in school. Later on in his life, he secured a job abroad and started earning big. He then started posting photos of his new iPhone, new DSLR, new car… Okay, these things are tolerable. But this: “Hirap talaga mag-vacuum ng auto, buti na lang meron akong Black and Decker.” I mean… What’s the point?!
8. What is your top 5 blogging tips for new bloggers?
Hmmh… I honestly don’t feel entitled to give any tips or advice (since I’m not a pro) but if I must, I guess, that would be:
If you are going to review a product, try to be as detailed as possible. As a reader myself, I want reviews that can provide me with essential information that can help me decide whether or not I should buy a product. I am also very curious about how it looks so the next on this list is also advised…
Take as many photos as you can. Make sure the photos are clear, sharp, and interesting. Professional cameras are not a requirement, I myself use only my Acer Liquid X2, then use some photo editing apps to make my photos look better. But if you have a nice camera, then better.
Use appropriate descriptive words, especially when reviewing a product or an item or a place. One rule in writing is that we should try, as much as we can, to avoid using the same word repeatedly. When my memory fails me, I often get help from a dictionary or a thesaurus, to find a proper synonym for the word.
Proofread your work. Before hitting Publish, you would want to re-read your work more than twice. I suggest that you give yourself at least about 1-hour interval, because our eyes notice errors better some time after writing it. A mistake in grammar can change the context entirely. Better check everything first before making your post public. I learned a great deal out of my own experience. I often got too excited about publishing my post, then I ended up editing it tons of times!
Like what you’re writing. It is important to know the latest fad… to stay-up-to-date, but you don’t need to write about something you don’t like. You have to LIKE what you write. You have to be interested in your topic to keep the ideas coming. Whether the product you’re reviewing is something you recommend or disapprove of, you should at least be engrossed in your subject.
Hope these simple tips help! Coming from an amateur such as I am!
9. Who would you consider your best travel buddy?
I’d say my partner, Guil. He knows a lot of things when it comes to places. He has a good sense of direction, and I feel safe and less awkward when I’m with him.
10. If you only have a day to live, who are you going to spend it with and why?
Oh, of course my family. We would eat together, watch a movie together, sing together… I’ll hold and embrace them until the last second of my life.
Wow… The last question was pretty tough! Thanks, Rose, for these really challenging questions. Now, I nominate you, my wonderful blogger friends!
If you go to a Philippine supermarket or drugstore, you’ll notice that a lot of skin care products’ main ingredients are papaya, calamansi and/or lemon extracts, and glutathione. All of which are known to lighten skin color. A lot of Filipinos (women included of course! I’m talking about people of the Philippines in general, just to be clear) prefer fairer skin to tanned skin.
Others embrace their Pinoy colors, while others (me included) do not really aim to look mestiza but at least lighten some dark areas on the body. There is NO problem, though, if a person wants to achieve a fairer skin. It always depends on what WE want for ourselves, not what OTHERS want. 😉
My father used to tell me never to kneel without anything protecting my knees from the floor. The friction would make my knees darker and that wouldn’t look good. Unfortunately, being a little girl who wanted to be as carefree as a boy, I often failed to do as I was told. Not only my knees, but also my elbows. I’m not also really confident with my pits, too, and I felt like it’s high time I make my skin happy and myself confident. They’ve been in the dark for so long! 😀
I’ve tried a lot of commercial products that promised to whiten skin “in just 1 week!”. I knew it was codswallop, but I was too forgiving I still gave them a try. Oh well, it was a complete waste of money.
Later on, I was convinced that a thorough treatment at a dermatologist would be my only chance. Then again, MJ Perez, the blogger behind the successful Vanity Room Philippines, proved that there ARE products that truly work. Though I haven’t really tried the products he has recommended, I’ll definitely give them a shot.
Last week, my aunt introduced to me a local skin care brand. It’s called BN Whitening Shoppe. I checked their page and their products seem promising. Its main company is in Davao City and my aunt said that she had friends and colleagues in Australia who used BN products and swore by their effectiveness.
So, here are the products that I got:
Cheek and Lip Tint
Claims: Smudge on this kiss-proof, see-through color for lips & cheeks that lasts for hours!
They have three shades: Orange, Red, and Plum. However, in other pages, they say, Orange, Pink, and Plum. Mine’s the red/pink one. 😀
Well, from the tube, the product looks red, but it’s more like reddish pink when applied. It does not indicate which shade it is; that’s one of the cons. It’s watery but gel-ish. Because of this, it is much easier to blend. It stains beautifully on my lips as well as on my cheeks. I’m surprised by its pigmentation and longevity. A little amount goes a long way. It lasted me all day and I love how natural it looks.
I’ve been using it for five days now and I have not had any breakouts. By the way, here are the ingredients:
I lightly squeeze the tube and apply the product directly onto my lips then I use my ring finger to spread it all over my lips. If you don’t want to have pink stain on your finger, use a Q-tip or a lip brush. However, the fingers are the best tools to spread it evenly on the cheeks.
I’m really happy with this product! This is better than the lip tints I’ve tried that are too watery.
Underarm Whitening Solution
Claims: Conquer sweat and odor with this wonder solution! This underarm whitening solution would surely help your armpits be free from odor-causing bacteria and will keep them sweat-free all throughout the day! What’s more, unlike other deodorants, its light and clear so no need to worry about staining your clothes or a film/cream build-up causing he underams to darken.
I have only been using this product for five days. I have not seen any major changes yet, but I noticed that my pits ARE a tad bit lighter than they usually are! Also, I am impressed by how true their claims are when it comes to sweat and odor. I did NOT sweat – not even a little I swear – the entire day. Eversince I used this product, I’ve stopped using my deodorant. That alone is impressive, because deo is always a must-have for me. (I just want to be 100% protected. It’s hard to take a risk you know.)
What I do is, after taking a bath and drying my pits, I put a few drops onto a piece of cotton and apply it all over. It has a slight cooling effect upon application. It has the smell of alcohol, but I don’t think it is super irritating.
I have high hopes for this product because in just a short period of time, I’m seeing some of its potential.
By the way, if you’ve been following this blog, you’ll know that I’m using an oatmeal scrub from another Pinoy brand. It’s almost empty now and I’ll be including that in my ‘product empties’ post. I’ll let you know what I think about it. But to give you a heads-up, I still can’t show you a before and after photo. 😀
As for this product, as promised, if there are any major changes, no matter how embarrassing it could be, I’ll post a photo here.
Pink Whitening Soap
Claims: Helps lighten skin through its mild formulation and promotes smoother skin. Use regularly to improve skin fairness and correct blemishes.
First of all, I LOVE the packaging! I’m not into flowers, but it does give this soap an extra oomph! As the name suggests, this is a pink soap with the logo stamped on the top. It has that floral scent, well I guess there won’t be flowers on the packaging if it doesn’t.
Here are the ingredients:
Kojic Acid, Coco Nucifera, Water, and Fragrance
As we already know, Kojic Acid lightens the skin tone. Recommended usage is day and night. You must lather for 5 minutes to get better results.
Unfortunately, among the things that I got, this is the only one I have not tried yet. I have just finished the last block of my coffee soap; and I have won a magical soap from Lily’s Beauty Potion (owned by a fellow Potterhead, yay!) I initially wanted to try that Harry Potter inspired soap first, but since it has not arrived yet, I’ve started using the Extreme Whitening Face and Body Soap, which you’ll be reading below. 😉
My sister, Mikk, is currently using it and she said it smells good. She also cuts it up into smaller blocks to make the soap last longer. She said the soap melts pretty quickly so make sure you place it somewhere that does not collect water.
Extreme Whitening Face and Body Soap
I have the small bar which is 55g, and is retailed for only P55. They also have it in a bigger bar, which is 220g, for only P195. I’ve just used this twice and my first time pleasantly surprised me! According to the instructions:
Use while bathing day and night. Lather onto your body to reveal lighter and healthier looking skin then rinse well immediately. GENTLY RUB. Pat dry and apply moisturizer.
The bar was wrapped in a transparent plastic and was so sealed that I squished the edges of the soap as I tried to remove the covering. It does not have any distinct scent, but it has that very subtle soap smell.
It did not have much foam as I lathered it all over my body, but the soap felt really smooth. I focused on areas that need more attention – you know, the dark areas. Hehe! However, it stung my groins because of some irritation going on down there. Also, I only saw the instructions AFTER I used the soap. Galing, noh?!
When I was done showering, I just let my body dry a little, then started rubbing my skin gently. I can see something (like libag haha!) coming off and noticed the sudden change in my skin. It looked radiant and light. My skin also felt cleaner, if that makes sense.
It just feels a bit drying afterwards, so moisturizing is a must-have. BN recommends their Extreme Whitening Lotion for best results, but I’m currently using a Korean soothing water gel at the moment.
This product claims to whiten skin in as early as 5 days… Hmmmh… We’ll see about that.
These past few weeks (or maybe months), I’ve been lacking sleep. It’s either I sleep at 3 or 4 in the morning, or I don’t sleep AT ALL. And this is NOT good for my body, as well as for my skin.
I’ve been having breakouts lately – on the forehead, cheeks, jawline, and all the other possible places for pimples to appear. And I know exactly why they keep coming back.
Now, how can my skin be at full rest, if I myself do not give it the so-called “Beauty Sleep”? So, what really happens to our skin when we lack sleep?
1. Cortisol level is UP to the heavens!
Cortisol, in layman’s terms, is a stress hormone. The more sufficient sleep we have, the lower the level of cortisol. It is naturally reduced as we sleep. Now, low cortisol level allows our skin to regenerate. So, if we don’t sleep, the cortisol level goes up causing breakouts and prevents our skin to heal properly. Our skin will age faster if we don’t have enough Z’s than when we dohave enough sleep.
2. Our skin gets dehydrated!
As you’ve read in #1, when we lack sleep, the stress hormone called cortisol increases. This destroys collagen – something that keeps our skin smooth and elastic. The skin becomes dehydrated causing fine lines and dark circles.
Ever noticed how much and how easily we perspire when we sleep? That’s because when we sleep, our body rebalances hydration and recovers moisture. So, if we don’t sleep, it’s like depriving our body from doing what it’s supposed to do.
3. Our skin becomes dull.
Our blood cannot flow efficiently all over the body when we do not have enough sleep. This leads to lack of oxygen in the blood. Our skin will look less radiant, more blotchy or ashy.
4. It’s going to worsen our skin’s existing problems.
If you, like me, already have pimples lodging on your face, more will appear if you sleep less. I haven’t been getting enough sleep, so newborn baby pimples appear somewhere on my face. I may have been able to treat some, but there were new ones that came out.
5. Our skin gets prone to skin diseases!
When we do not have enough sleep, our immune system weakens. We do not only get sick, but also our body develops immune-related skin diseases such as eczema.
There may be more reasons why we need proper and sufficient sleep. These five things alone should already have convinced you to stop staying up late at night. (Too addicted to K-drama? hmmh…. I don’t blame you! I’m as guilty as you are! 😀 )
If you’ve got your hands full and your work is up to your eyeballs, and you think it can’t be helped, then there’s one product I am super loving at the moment I recommend…
Claims: Overnight mask that gives the skin a lively, well-rested appearance the next morning thanks to its Sleep-tox™ purifying effect.
So last night, I added this to my night skin care routine. This routine is for the nights I don’t scrub and use masks. I washed my face, applied my pimple solution and serum, then finished it with Laneige Water Sleeping Mask.
It smells super refreshing and relaxing. I can’t lay a finger on it, but it’s really so good! It has a texture of a gel, only it’s not as thick and clumpy. It applies smoothly on the skin and does not feel sticky at all. Waking up was the best part! I’m not lying, you guys! My skin felt and looked plump and well-moisturized! Busog na busog sa moisture! OMG!
It felt like I wore a facial mask the night before. I believe it has also helped my pimple solution to work well, because it gave my skin all the good stuff it needs.
According to Laneige website, this product has SLEEP-TOX™ technology that purifies skin during sleep. It helps rejuvenate and normalize skin that is often fatigued during the day (or even at night!)
It also has MOISTURE WRAP™ that helps retain moisture throughout the night. Some of its active ingredients are Hydra Ion Mineral Water, evening primrose root extract, and Hunza apricot extract, that when absorbed by the skin, it will look and feel as if you’ve had a good 8 hours of sleep!
This mask also has skin-soothing agents that gently help the skin to recover overnight. It’s super light and non-comedogenic (won’t clog your pores!).
Moreover, the reason why I feel so relaxed the more I smell it, is because it has aromatic SLEEPSCENT™. “It is specially developed for Laneige Water Sleeping Mask that is an AMOREPACIFIC original. It allows our skin to relax and rest, boosting its ability to regenerate.”
I have a small pot, which is 15ml. It only costs P160! Great deal, huh?! I knowwww! This is just the perfect size to try it out before buying the larger tub. The larger tub has 70ml and it only costs P850! Well, if you know where to buy.
I think this is also perfect for the owls in call centers. Since they don’t usually get the recommended 6-8 hours of sleep, this product will help them look as if they do!
Would you try it? Just in case you want to try it, contact Gabistar on Facebook and, do me a favor, tell them you found them here on my page when placing an order. (Thanks!) Also, you can PM me on my Facebook page!

Lipsticks, most especially the liquid ones, are like your jowas (boyfriend or girlfriend). You love them, you sometimes feel incomplete without them, and you just feel like you can conquer all when you’re with them. They promise you everything that makes your ears flap, your eyes pop, and your heart flutter; yet those remain promises. Promises, as many believe, are meant to be broken.
I love lipsticks. If there’s one makeup item that I can take with me all the time, that’ll be lipstick. I can go bare face, a bit of powder will do, dab a little lipstick on the cheeks, and some on my lips, and I’m good to go.
Lipstick can also make or break a makeup look. No matter how pretty our eye makeup is, it can be destroyed with the wrong shade of lipstick. You can also express yourself through lipstick. Feeling fierce? Use a dark vampy plum color. Feeling sexy? Wear a wine red lippie. Feeling cute? Put on some pretty pink shade. Feeling natural or fresh? Throw in some nude lipstick. Feeling bold? Rock a silver, gold, green, black, or blue!
But sometimes, lipsticks can be very disappointing. You buy them because of all the promises companies make you place an order. You leave the house feeling like a diyosa (goddess), then you eat, and your lips look like a disaster!
That’s why I’ve decided to put them to a test in this new series here on my blog, as well as on my channel, and I call it:
Lipstick & Mukbang!
Just in case you have no idea what Mukbang is, it’s basically eating in front of the camera. Usually there’s a table laden with food, it could be prepared or bought by the host, then the host enjoys eating them while interacting with their viewers.
The word mukbang is a combination of two Korean words: muk(mukda / meokda), which means “to eat”; bang (bangsong), which means “broadcast”.
So, yeah. Basically, I’ll be eating with my lipstick on, and see if it can live up to its claims.
If you’re Filipino, whether or not you’re in the Philippines, I’m pretty sure you know Mang Inasal. Mang Inasal offers chicken and pork barbeques, unlimited rice, soup, and other Filipino dishes. They also have halo-halo, a popular Filipino dessert which is a mixture of shaved ice, milk, and various ingredients such as sweetened banana, jackfruit, beans, gello, coconut, and many others. It is often topped with ube, leche flan and ice cream.
You can find a Mang Inasal branch in almost every town in the Philippines, oftentimes seen side by side with Jollibee and Chowking.
As for the lip dye, NYX did not promise anything about staying power. (But that doesn’t mean I don’t need to test them out, does it?) They did mention about being lightweight and vibrant, though. And I can attest to that.
I applied NYX Epic Ink Lip Dye at around 11:30. I LOVE the formulation; it’s really thin but super pigmented! I don’t know why it’s getting so much hate when it’s clearly different from Soft Matte Lip Cream, Lingerie, and Lip Suede. Epic Ink Lip Dye is more like a lip tint, but more saturated. I love the fact that it’s not patchy. I think it only depends on how it is applied and how much I apply. It sets beautifully and quickly; and becomes transfer proof!
I drank water before leaving the house. The lip dye stayed on. I touched it with a finger, there was a light transfer because my lips were wet. It dried up fast looking untouched.
Okay, MEOKJA! (Let’s eat!)
Titus, Likha, and I had Sulit Meal 1. It includes skewered chicken, a cup of rice, unlimited soup, and regular softdrink.
Tim chose Sulit Meal 2, which includes pork barbeque, a cup of rice, unlimited soup, and regular softdrink.
Guil had Solb SarapCombo Meal, which consists of a chicken barbeque, unlimited rice, unlimited soup, and large softdrink, and halo-halo (I love their halo-halo).
Each Sulit Meal costs less than a hundred pesos, while the combo meal is roughly above P100. Super affordable!
Tim really loves eating at Mang Inasal because of their soup. He oftens pours the soup into his rice. He also loves the taste of the pork barbeque but he can’t eat the meat well because it’s a bit too tough and chewy for him. Titus and Likha enjoyed theirs, too, and asked for more rice. I love their chicken as well, but I think it isn’t very tender or juicy.
What I really appreciate the most, is the fact that they offer unlimited soup (we all just love that, don’t we?); and unlimited rice which is perfect for hungry rice monsters (which we sometimes are). An extra cup of rice can cost P25 in other food chains, and it’s already the price of half a kilogram of uncooked rice! 😀 As I mentioned above, I love their halo-halo, because it’s super creamy and tasty.
I had my lunch in the way I normally do. I didn’t exaggerate every bite; I wasn’t too careful even. Like I said, just how I normally eat. I ate my halo-halo and drank my Coke.
We finished at around 1 in the afternoon.
After the meal…
OMG! I was astonished! I asked Guil and the kids what they thought about my lipstick and they all said it still looked good. I gave it a closer look. The color on the lower lip faded a little, but the pigmentation was still all right. Still lookin’ good as new!
The lipstick almost didn’t transfer on the cup, but transfered a little on the tissue. Despite this, the color on my lips did not come off.
At 3:40 PM, some color had worn off in the inner portion of my lower lip, which is pretty normal. That happens most of the time with many lipsticks. But NYX Epic Ink still looked intact on the rest of my lips. That makes it apart from others.
At around 9:00 PM, some color faded in the center of my lower lip, as well as on the upper lip. The product had sunk into the lines and cracks of my lips. However, there was a patch of color in the center of my upper lip.
At almost 2 in the morning, (this was the 14-hour mark) my lips were still covered with the product, but it wasn’t as vibrant as it looked earlier. It got a bit patchy – on the center of my upper lip and the lines on my lower lip.
Despite all this, I’m still really satisfied with how this lipstick test turned out. I think this is a new favorite and I’ll definitely get more shades.
I’m so happy about how it turned out. I didn’t expect it would last that long. I won’t deny, though, that it could be quite drying. But to be honest, I didn’t feel my lips were dry. It looked dry; however, it was not droughty, if that makes sense.
By the way, I got my NYX Epic Ink Lip Dye for P250 when it went on sale on Lazada. I got two – Night Runner for my sister, and Heartbreaker for myself. Unfortunately, Epic Ink has gone back to its regular prize of P350. The other NYX lippies are now on sale, though. ^^
So what do you think of this new series? What would you like me to use on my next Mukbang lipstick test? Don’t forget to comment below!
Last week, I received my orders from Sooper Beaute. One of the three things I ordered was this Pimple Away Solution. That time I had some pimple and acne problems so I thought it was just the perfect time to test it out.
On the label, it says it has:
azelaic acid; and
So what good are these ingredients? That’s what we’re going to find out.
According to some sources, salicylic acid is used to fight acne. In addition, it cleans the surface of the skin and helps unclog pores. It is recommended to use regularly because once it’s stopped, pores will be clogged again and the acne will come back.
Manuka Myrtle, aka Leptospermum scoparium, aka tea tree. So it’s just tea tree after all! Oh well, Manuka Myrtle sounds fancy. 😀
Anyways, so Manuka Myrtle aka Leptospermum scoparium aka TEA TREE, penetrates the skin, unblocks our sebaceous glands, cleans and disinfects our pores.
This is used to remove the bumps, lesions, and swelling. It does not only treat acne, but also rosacea and flaky skin!
Lemon extract is a natural astringent that reduces oil and pushes it out of our skin. It also removes pimple marks and spots.
Apparently, all four ingredients mentioned above are absolutely essential to our problematic skin. Having all these ingredients will definitely clear up our skin and treat our acne problems.
In the photo, you can see the other ingredients in this solution. It contains:
Deionized water – it means the water used has been removed of all its mineral ion like sodium, iron, copper, etc.
Witch Hazel Extract – a natural acne treatment and removes excess oil on skin
Vitamin B3 – helps reduce wrinkles, uneven skin tone, and hyperpigmentation; also helps heal acne
No wonder why my pimples actually dried up quite fast!
I decided to use this product for 5 straight days, before giving my final review. I skipped one day after my fourth, though, such a shame. But gladly, it did not have any bad effect.
So, here’s what went down:
Day 1 – two big pimples with pus and lesion above my left brow; one red and swollen pimple above my right brow; one on the left jaw; and one right below my right nostril
Day 2 – all pimples are starting to reduce in size; the one with pus had dried up, but all pimples still had bumps.
Day 3 – all pimples continued to get smaller; still had bumps;
Day 4 – all pimples had gotten much smaller, developed a new one on the right jaw and the left cheek
skipped a day
Day 5 – no more pus; the pimples above both brows reduced to the size of a whitehead; the one below the nostril had totally flattened but left a spot; the one on the left jaw and left cheek had gotten much smaller; no more swelling except for the one on the right jaw. It seemed to develop pus, but no biggie.
I asked Sooper Beaute if this solution could be used all over the face, and they said if there were no irritations, then yes it woud be alright.
Initially I thought of using this just as a spot treatment every time I have pimples, but after learning what all these ingredients are for, I think I will use this on a daily nightly basis. Anyway, I use my Sooper Beaute Baby Skin Snail Serum + Tomato Extract afterwards.
You might think this solution is too strong to be able to treat pimples and acne that fast, but I think otherwise. It doesn’t have any pungent smell; only like a gentle facial cleanser or toner. Despite having to apply it near my eye (three of my “friends” are on my brows), I didn’t feel anything strange. No stinging sensation. But of course, don’t risk it. Never apply on the eyes!
As for the price point, P180 (more or less $3) is already good for 60ml product. It’s not as costly as the ones in the drugstores or department stores, but this is proven effective.
If you have any pimple or acne problems, go ahead and give it a go!

What do you do when pesky pimples attack your precious face? Which is/are your go-to product/s? Don’t forget to leave a comment below!
The season for pluviophiles has begun, and it’s terrorizing those who are not. :p I don’t love the rain, but I don’t hate it even. If it rains and I’m at home, I like staying in bed, getting wrapped in blankets, reading a book, or watching a very interesting Korean drama or American TV series, or just SLEEPING! Going out is the last thing on my mind when it pours. (But I DO love the smell of rain on grass.)
There are two things that pop in my mind when I think of the word “rain”:
I know… They’re contradicting, but isn’t it true? The dismal sky turns down our mood meter, but the image of wet grass and trees reminds us of cleansing.
However, rainy season can be quite unforgiving on our skin. No skin type is safe. Whether it is oily, combination, or dry, one thing must be done – HYDRATE.
This is the season when our skin gets really crazy and unstable. It gets dehydrated and dull, but can also become oily.
Might as well use makeup products that can give us protection any time of the day.
Cathy Doll Acne Solution Serum + Foam Cleanser
As I mentioned earlier, this season can be unforgiving on our skin. Due to high humidity, our skin gets more prone to all the nasty stuff. With Cathy Doll Acne Solution Serum + Foam Cleanser, I thoroughly washed my face. It’s a bit liquidy and it doesn’t get too foamy. It lathers on my skin really smoothly and it smells good. I can’t lay a finger on it but I think it has a minty scent to it.
According to the packaging, it:
is anti acne
for sensitive skin
has oil control
is a spot remover
has tea tree serum
My skin felt really clean and fresh afterwards. It felt soft to touch.
This sachet has 6ml of the product and costs only P16.
Cathy Doll Water Splash Essence
Now my face was fully-cleansed, I had to bring back some moisture that I lost after washing. Also, this weather can be super dehydrating as our body does not produce as much liquid as it normally does.
I have two (out of three) Cathy Doll Splash Essence products – one is Milky (the blue one) and the other one is Water (the pink one). I used Water Splash Essence first, not because it has L-Glutathione, but because it claims to tighten pores.
The product is thicker than the foam cleanser. It’s a bit moussy, but once applied on the skin, it turns watery. It did feel moisturizing afterwards, and it did brighten my skin. No wonder it also says “Sweet Dream Quick Step Whitening” at the bottom of the packet.
I noticed that my pores did seem minimized and I’m happy that it worked.
This has 5g and costs only P50. No worries! A little goes a long way so a small packet can last you for weeks.
Just because it rains doesn’t mean there’s no sun. I used Cathy Doll Whitening Sunscreen L-Glutathione Magic Cream to keep my skin protected from the harmful UV rays. This has SPF 50 PA +++ and I LOVE IT for that!
It also has a cooling effect and spreads all over the skin smoothly. It smells like the usual facial cream, very gentle and not overpowering. It also brightens up the skin, making it look fresher and more radiant. I’ll surely repurchase.
This packet holds 8ml of the product and costs P40. Not bad for SPF 50!
Cathy Doll CC Cream Speed White
To stay looking healthy and fresh even in this crazy humid, gloomy, and rainy weather, I suggest you try this CC Cream from Cathy Doll. It also has SPF 50 PA +++, it brightened up my skin and it made my skin look smooth and clear.
It has a thin consistency, which is good, as it easily blends in very smoothly. It has a light coverage but buildable to medium, but careful not to put too much as it can look too light. I got the shade #1 Light Beige, which is too light for my skin tone, but eventually it oxidized and looked more natural.
It didn’t have a dewy finish. It looked demi-matte, though. Just a teenie bit of tackiness, but definitely not sticky. I was aiming for a natural glowy, healthy look, so I used a liquid illuminator underneath it. I applied it on areas where we usually add our highlighter.
I blended everything with my Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. I pressed it a little firmly against my skin to make it look even more natural. You can also use your finger or a brush, but I think a sponge is a much better choice.
I didn’t bake, but I dusted it with L.A. Colors Pressed Powder, using my fluffiest powder brush. It looked good because it still looked dewy, unfortunately my face had an oil party after about three hours. The good thing was, after blotting so much oil (I used two sheets and it wasn’t really enough), it looked fine again, not cakey or blotchy.
This CC cream has 6g of product and only costs P40.
All Cathy Doll products mentioned above were bought at a 7-11 branch. Unfortunately, they aren’t available in the malls near us, but glad they’re available at 7-11. I commend Cathy Doll for creating affordable travel-size sachets, making it convenient for everybody. I also appreciate the fact that I didn’t have any breakouts or irritation after using all these products.
Now to finish the entire look, I used the following products:
